Andy Carroll Included In England U21 Squad

Andy Carroll has been named in the England Under-21 squad to face Portugal and Lithuania next month.

Andy Carroll – selected for the England U21 side – again

This means that Fabio Capello, the England manager does not think Andy  is ready for the full England squad yet, which is a little surprising, but there again Fabio picked the hopeless Emile Heskey for the World Cup games – so maybe it isn’t so surprising after all.

Andy has looked really great in his two games so far this season, and looks a top striker in the making,  and maybe this will encourage Scotland to try again to make him into a full Scottish International – we wouldn’t blame them at all if they gave it another try.

But Andy is still young, and he’ll have plenty of chances at the full England level – and sooner rather than later,  if he keeps up his current sparkling form – and we’re sure that’s exactly the advice manager Chris Hughton will give the youngster.

England U21 coach Stuart Pearce talked about the squad:

“It’s the strongest squad we could have got at this stage of the season.”

Carroll is joined in the squad by Sunderland pair of  Jordan Henderson, an excellent young player,  and Danny Wellbeck, who is on loan at the Stadium of Light from Manchester United for the season.

England face Portugal in Barcelos on Friday 3rd September (kick-off 6:00 pm), before facing Lithuania at Colchester United’s Weston Homes Community Stadium on Tuesday 7 September (kick-off 4:00 pm).

And because of poor past results England need to win both games to qualify for the Finals.

Jack Rodwell of Everton and Jack Wilshere of Arsenal are two young stars also included in the squad.

England Under-21 squad:

Goalkeepers: Fielding (Blackburn), Scott Loach (Watford), Alex Smithies (Huddersfield);

Defenders: Bertrand (Nott’m Forest, on loan from Chelsea), Jones (Blackburn), Kelly (Liverpool), Mancienne (Chelsea), Richards (Manchester City), Smalling (Manchester United), Walker (Tottenham);

Midfield: Albrighton (Aston Villa), Cleverley (Manchester United), Cork (Burnley, on loan from Chelsea), Henderson (Sunderland), Lansbury (Arsenal), Moses (Wigan), Muamba (Bolton), Rodwell (Everton), Rose (Tottenham), Wilshere (Arsenal);

Strikers: Carroll (Newcastle), Delfouneso (Aston Villa), Sturridge (Chelsea), Welbeck (Sunderland, on loan from Manchester United)

    Good news for us – keeping him out of the full squad will keep the pressure off him and keep him hungry. Making the full squad rarely seems to improve players (Jenas springs to mind).

    i really cant wait for the transfer window to close, so at least we can look at the squad and say this is it rather than if ben-arfa is coming are not,

    if hes in it when it closes then great and if not at least i wont have to read his name again

    If Ben Arfa doesn’t come, so what?

    We have a team capable of scoring without him, though to have him would be an obvious benefit.

    If we have indeed ended interest in HBA, you simply HAVE TO PRESSUME that CH have someone else lined up.

    CH knows we need to add to the creative attacking side, he wont leave us high and dry.

    Can you imagine if we loose Routledge and Jonas at the same time??!!!

    We need at least one more winger.

    If not HBA, I suspect it’ll be a player from the Championship or someone else on loan…

    I’m not worried in the slightest…

    At the minute!

    I rate diamanti would’ve loved him here. Brilliant player to come off the bench or play jsut fof Carroll.

    As for Carroll he can still be caleld up to the full squad and just drop out of the u-21 squad.

    Capello may still remove him and put him into the full squad. He has done it before. He is a u21 regular, so he is bound to be picked if available.

    look how many games milner played for the U21’s before he got a call up, i think its to early for him. imagine if he called him up and he didnt play that well the press would write him off from one performance and it would be hard for him to get picked again.

    It’s funny with xisco he play’s 10 mins then always seems to get injured, has anyone got his stats whilst he was at Racing santander?? i det he benched warmed most of the time, shame really as the kid seems to have a bit of pace (which we need) and has a good foot on him.
    or do you think i’m bein a little harsh on the boy
