Andy Carroll has been named in the England Under-21 squad to face Portugal and Lithuania next month.
Andy Carroll – selected for the England U21 side – again
This means that Fabio Capello, the England manager does not think Andy is ready for the full England squad yet, which is a little surprising, but there again Fabio picked the hopeless Emile Heskey for the World Cup games – so maybe it isn’t so surprising after all.
Andy has looked really great in his two games so far this season, and looks a top striker in the making, and maybe this will encourage Scotland to try again to make him into a full Scottish International – we wouldn’t blame them at all if they gave it another try.
But Andy is still young, and he’ll have plenty of chances at the full England level – and sooner rather than later, if he keeps up his current sparkling form – and we’re sure that’s exactly the advice manager Chris Hughton will give the youngster.
England U21 coach Stuart Pearce talked about the squad:
“It’s the strongest squad we could have got at this stage of the season.”
Carroll is joined in the squad by Sunderland pair of Jordan Henderson, an excellent young player, and Danny Wellbeck, who is on loan at the Stadium of Light from Manchester United for the season.
England face Portugal in Barcelos on Friday 3rd September (kick-off 6:00 pm), before facing Lithuania at Colchester United’s Weston Homes Community Stadium on Tuesday 7 September (kick-off 4:00 pm).
And because of poor past results England need to win both games to qualify for the Finals.
Jack Rodwell of Everton and Jack Wilshere of Arsenal are two young stars also included in the squad.
England Under-21 squad:
Goalkeepers: Fielding (Blackburn), Scott Loach (Watford), Alex Smithies (Huddersfield);
Defenders: Bertrand (Nott’m Forest, on loan from Chelsea), Jones (Blackburn), Kelly (Liverpool), Mancienne (Chelsea), Richards (Manchester City), Smalling (Manchester United), Walker (Tottenham);
Midfield: Albrighton (Aston Villa), Cleverley (Manchester United), Cork (Burnley, on loan from Chelsea), Henderson (Sunderland), Lansbury (Arsenal), Moses (Wigan), Muamba (Bolton), Rodwell (Everton), Rose (Tottenham), Wilshere (Arsenal);
Strikers: Carroll (Newcastle), Delfouneso (Aston Villa), Sturridge (Chelsea), Welbeck (Sunderland, on loan from Manchester United)

Comment #108Listen, I hope your a million percent right on this. I just don’t build my hopes up anymore. It’s been the most overhyped talk on Tyneside for last few weeks and we seem to be no further. If your right I will come crawling with an apology. But I just find the whole thing tedious now and wish we knew either way. I just hope your “sources” aren’t making u look a fool, guess only time will tell.

Comment #118its a fact they talked but it wasnt a fact he signed, thats my point nothings definite until we read it on nufc website. plus players rarley know whats going on, most of them say they found out someone had signed or left their club on SSN. you may be correct time will tell, but its still an assumption not definite.

Comment #120let Andy Carroll perform within 10 premierleague game then he will be good enough to play for England
If i am Andy, gave myself till 23 and if the senior cap of England is not achieve then go for Scotland
