Accrington Stanley vs Newcastle – Match Preview

Newcastle take on Accrington Stanley tonight and we have to hope we can make it through to the next round,  with some of our fringe players participating tonight.

The key for Chris in his team selection is to have the tight balance of youth and experience in the team, and he didn’t seem to do that last year when the lads were beaten 2-0 at Peterborough United.

It’s a toss up as to which players Chris will start tonight, since quite a few are due a start – but here’s a possible starting eleven for the game:

Tavernier Williamson Kadar Enrique
LuaLua Haris Guthrie Taylor (R)
Ameobi Lovenkrands
Subs: Harper Perch Smith Barton Donaldson Nolan Xisco

This assumes Danny Guthrie has recovered from his slight knee injury, but it could be he will not play, since Chris Hughton said this morning he hasn’t trained at all this week.

Chris will need to start a few experienced players,  and have some on the bench in case they are needed in the second half, and who gets introduced will depend on how the game is going of course.

This is a good opportunity for a number of the younger players, including 19 year-old James Tavernier, who played in a number of pre-season games, and looked very promising and a good bet to have a good future at the club.

It will also give Haris Vuckic, who turned 18 last Saturday, a chance to show how good he is, and also 19 year-old Kazenga LuaLua,  who may still be sent out on loan for the season.

And of course Tim Krul will get another chance to impress, and certainly Steve Harper hasn’t done too much in the first two games, and this may be the season that Tim can make his break through into the first team at Newcastle – but only time will tell.

It’s a tricky tie for Chris Hughton, but we still expect to get through this game and be in the hat for the next round – who knows we may even draw Sunderland, but we’d be lucky to get such an easy draw. 😀

Comments welcome.

I don’t know if anyone else has seen this yet, and I can’t get on the link, but Sky Sports website is reporting that Steven Taylor has been transfer listed-,20369,12691,00.html

This link, the second item on the list!

Steven Taylor transfer listed man what the hell is going on?

Also Brum have just improved on an 8 mill bid for Insomnia, we could get Benny Arfa for cheaper than that and would be silly not too to be honest

Goodo – if Taylor thinks he is worth 60k a week – he can pee off and go find some mug to give him it – let him eradicate his failings and then negotiate for more from a position of strength – oh and he can never claim to love the club again.

We have managed without Taylor for a year with the best defensive record we have had for a long time.

Oh and Taylor please turn out the lights as you leave.

    £60,000 a week?

Greedy little c***, Carroll has just signed a £25K contract and is making progress to much more of an asset than Taylor.

SSN say taylor wants over a 60k a week and the club have offered around 40k. thats his agent stirring im sure. lets cash in if he does not want to be here. would be good if MA gives CH the money to invest, although prob not, however we would still have 4 good CB

Just hope he isnt feigning injury to strengthen his position!

He might have the whole of the city turn against him here. Cant see anyone backing him.

I could understand him wanting a raise instead of an extention, but turning down £40k a week is just pure greed, especialy from the club you suposedly love.

I thought better of Taylor to be honest, and hope this is just his agent stiring.

p.s is his agent still his dad?

CH rests Enrique all the time when it comes to games like these so Tav will be CB with Kadar LB and Raylor RB

Steven Taylor, £60,000 a week? Get real, he’s not that good for sure. Steven, those days are over. Got too big for his boots, let him go. Take his father with him.

Does anyone think Big Sol might play some part in tonights game? Maybe if he played seond half, It would go a long way in boosting up his match fitness, and would also give that experience alongside tavernier/perch/kadar.
