We were sorry to hear that Steven Taylor was unable to reach some agreement with his home town club to stay at Newcastle.
Steven Taylor – on his way
But if the news is correct as Sky Sport is reporting it – still nothing on the Newcastle official web-site about this – we’ll need to move on and you can bet that Chris Hughton will want to now add some defensive reinforcements to the squad before next Tuesday.
It was only yesterday that Chris was saying that he was short of defenders right now due to injuries, and while it will help to have Sol Campbell fit again very soon, we’ve got to think that Hughton will now try to bring in a replacement for Taylor, during the transfer window.
Who that may be we have no idea, but if Chris can get someone who could play anywhere across the back four, that would probably be the best type of player to bring in.
But we now expect as many as three more players to be drafted into the squad, and maybe an outright transfer too, if Chris can use the money from any Steven Taylor transfer – which we think he will be allowed to do.
Again, we are assuming the news on Sky Sports is valid.
Comments welcome.

Comment #1I think we’ll still only bring in 2. I think when Hughton said he expected 2, he realised Taylor may well be on his way out…

Comment #3That makes sense Howay the Lads. I think CH was well aware that we would be losing Taylor for longer than the last few days. Now – will the fat man use some of the money for him to allow CH to buy?

Comment #6How can he think he is worth 60k a week im sorry Carrol is more important to the team and he just signed a 4yr contract at 25k no way he is worth over double what Carrol will get now, its not playing for the NUFC badge for him like what he used to be its money and a shame to see him being advised poorly. hopefully we can get a SOLID ENGLISH player in for him someone from the Championship like Perch would be great but its a shame also to lose a Local lad for nothing really, he was worth about 5 plus million now worth more like 1.5/2 mill

Comment #9I trust CH’s judgement, and if he believes we have the quality and depth to cover for 6 month if we let him go then i’d be happy.

Comment #12Chris Hughton will have no say in this, the facts are simple that Ashley will not allow obscene wage demands like this £60,000 was a joke.

Comment #13Perch can play CB aswel, personaly i’d prefer to not lose Taylor for about 2 million as I rate him and think he would be a bargain for any club if he goes.
I don’t know why people are claiming to be happy here, this is in no-way a good situation for us.

Comment #14But Dave he should have had a say, he may feel it’s worth keeping him for the season and letting him go for a free.
Ashley shouldn;t look at it like “we can get 2 mill for him now if we flog him” he should be thinking “does the manager believe he’s worth keeping for the season or not?”

Comment #17We were rumoured to be looking at Deryck Boyata from Man City and Mark Wilson from Pompey, I wonder of they might now try and push for those deals if Taylor is on his way out.
Also, woo!! No more Taylor! 😀

Comment #20I really don’t think anybody needed a crystal ball to forecast this. Taylor’s lack of comments and his agent spouting off said it all. More money or my client walks. There is very little loyalty left in football now its all money money money !

Comment #21thats what i said nufc_richygo1
we should have done it in january in my opinion, or at the latest early summer, contracts should never be allowed to get so close to expiry, if they wont sign an extension when offered, just get rid, end of

Comment #24guys, i feel somethink need saying, steven is a great player.but the one thing this club can not do is go back to the days where we pay silly money, i like steven taylor but the club is bigger then steven, i hope he signes a contract..but please remember he knows the club have a wadge cap..so asking for 60 k is just another way of saying he wants a trtansfer without directly coming out and saying it,

Comment #25But surely no one will pay 5-6 million for a player wanting 60k a week to be out for 2 months. I think he will still be here on Monday…

Comment #29I really like Stevie Taylor, but if the stories are true that he is not toeing the line on wages then he should go.
I do agree with most people that he has not developed as he maybe should have by now. However when I play football I always identify myself with him – both centre backs (with brown hair), both think we’re better than we actually are, run around a lot, but always put a lot into the game.

Comment #35I know i may get crucified here but, i’ve being a magpie supporter for the past 8 years and believe me when i say Steven is not as good as people make him out to be… he’s inconsistent, injury prone and a reminds me of Steven Carr.. i say if he wants to go let him go…. lets not forget Johnathan Woodgate…. still injured… has not played a full season since he left us
