The Daily Mail today has linked Newcastle with Hull defender Kamil Zayatte and Burnley winger Chris Eagles.
Burnley’s Chris Eagles – are Newcastle really interested?
The news is that Newcastle have made enquiries for 24 year-old Zayatte, and could make a firm bid in the remaining days of the summer transfer market. There are just 6 days left in the transfer window.
It’s not the first time we have been linked with this player and there were reports in Sky Sports two years ago that he could sign for Newcastle. Indeed in the summer of 2008, he had a trial at Newcastle.
Zayatte was born in Guinea, but moved to French club RC Lens in 2005, and then moved to Swiss club New Boys in 2007, before arriving at Hull City last year.
He can play in defense or as a defensive midfielder, and has so far played 40 times for Hull with a couple of goals, and 19 times for Guinea, and we think this lad would be a good acquisition for Newcastle.
And the other news is that both Celtic and Newcastle United are chasing 24 year-old Burnley winger Chris Eagles.
The former Manchester United man has already rejected a move to Glasgow Rangers, after he took a pay cut at Turf Moor this summer following his club’s relegation to the Championship.
But it seems that Burnley manager Brian Laws hopes to keep the lad at Turf Moor with an improved deal, as Brian told the Mail today:
“As far as we are concerned, Chris is still a Burnley player. No one has made an official approach, so I don’t know where the Celtic thing is coming from.””There has been talk of Chris signing a new deal here, but we are not in a position to discuss the situation concerning our players where that’s concerned.”
We’re not sure it would be a good move for Newcastle to sign Chris – he’s a good skillful player – but seems to blow hot and cold and is probably too inconsistent to be a good buy for Newcastle.
The 6′ tall Eagles was at Watford from 1998 until he joined the Red Devils in 2000, and then he joined the Burnley club two years ago.

Comment #41newcastle dont need to deny it, i think hughton has just given up on commenting on the stories now, like he says its just rumours 95% of the time, no truth at all, early in the window he mentioned there was alot of good players in the championship, made me think we might get more players from the fizzy 🙁

Comment #43True! but the one thing about the Toon is the ability to surprise everyone – like the result against Villa! I’m still in shock now and it’s made a load of people sit up and take notice; I mean, can you imagine any other promoted club winning like that against a so called top club?
