Shock news today that Sky Sports is reporting that Newcastle United have placed local boy Steven Taylor on the transfer list.
Steven Taylor – local lad wants to leave
The defender is currently out with a shoulder injury, and his contract runs out at the end of the season.
Taylor’s agent Paul Stretford recently admitted that negotiations over an extension to his contract were not progressing smoothly, and it looks like those talks have finally broken down.
Newcastle have decided to make Taylor available for transfer, after he has turned down their latest and final offer of a new deal.
And we have to think that was made easier by the good form shown by 26 year-old center-back Mike Williamson, who in the first two games of the PL season, has continued his excellent form of last season, and looked outstanding.
The deal offered to Steven was thought to be around £40K a week, which is a slight improvement on what he was already making at his home-town club, but it looks like that wasn’t enough for the Greenwich-born player.
The news is that Taylor’s representatives wanted something closer to £60K.
The 24-year-old has been with Newcastle since the very start of his career, and he was a former ball-boy when the great Kevin Keegan managed the club, and has played 179 times with 10 goals for Newcastle United.
We are sorry to hear about this – but if the lad wants more money elsewhere – so be it.
The policy of only keeping players who want to play for the Newcastle club, has worked famously over these last 13 months or so, but Steven will also be a big miss at the Newcastle club and we’re sure manager Chris Hughton will be sorry to see him leave.
We expect there to be an immediate demand for his services from some top Premier League clubs.
Comments welcome.

I can’t stand the bloke personally and can definitely see why Carroll lamped the smug, smirking, obnoxious ….. .
Taylor thinks he’s all that, when the reality is he’s worse than Titus. Awful positional sense etc etc.
It’ll mean the end of his dad poking his nose in all the time too and fancy asking for a raise now when you’ve been out injured at NUFC’s expense for months.
Poor lamb cant’ survive on £35K a week in the worst recession ever – take a hike Stevie boy.

Comment #42geordielad880 – we wont get that much for taylor to cover the signings imo especially because hes out for a while. like i said before this story broke i prefer the way we do business now making sure the deal is best for us rather than pay over the odds. at least this way we know the club has got the best possible deal for the players we do sign

Comment #43New to this blog so hello everyone.
I dont understand how Steven Taylor can demand 60k a week when Andy Carroll can put pen to paper on a 25k a week contract. Carroll is going to be 10 times better than Taylor.

Comment #44well lets wait and see…
I cant see him going before the window closes, not unless its for a knockdown price, clubs will just wait till jan and get him for free, and it will suit greedy taylor aswell

Comment #45Over Rated, wants to be over Paid, Maybe if he sorted his injury situation out then he might be worth worrying about but the lads who are at the back now are working really well together, and I cant see him getting back in the team (apart from maybe RB).
No huge loss, aslong as we get a decent fee

Comment #48You heartless b*****ds, Taylor gives his all for the toon and would have been our best right back. You all read a report and believe everything you read so now he is a greedy b*****d. Hang your head in shame as you cannot be classed as true fans.

How is this Ashley, I think Ashley is being sensible by transfer listing him.
He is a waste of a squad number and place in the 25 man squad

Comment #50Posted this earlier on one of teh many HBA blogs:
Taylor’s a good lad and he works hard, but he knows the club’s limitations on wages at the moment.
If he’s asking for £60+ I would guess he probably wants out, as he must know he won’t get it.
Shame really, but I won’t be heartbroken if he goes. He’s not without his faults, but he’s a local lad and he’s well thought of by a lot of other clubs.
He does have a habit of handling in the area, but he does have some very good attributes. I just remember how happy it made me to see him shoving Ronaldo of the pitch by his throat a couple of years ago.
If he wants to leave, fair enough. With Sol in the team and Willo in such good form, you have to wonder where he’d fit in now. We have plenty of options for the CB positions (Colo, Willo, Solo, Kadaro, Percho (sorry) etc…). We should get relatively good money for him too. Might fund a creative mid or a small shifty striker.
That said, if he’s still here after the transfer window closes I’ll be happy enough. For a defender, he has a good eye for the back of the net.
I do wonder where this story came from mind. Could just be more paper sh1te…..

Its (all) about the money.
Sure, he gives his all, when fit, but if you have to bring in someone of similar quality as cover for when he gets injured, why have both?
SSN say he played a big part in our promotion – he was barely on the pitch for us!

Comment #55Sad news really – the guy had such raw talent but lacks the concentration to make it at the top level. If the reports are correct then off he should go – like people have said the days of the club being held to ransom are over – to be fair we’ve only seen glimpse of his potential. He is by no means the finished article – even if he does stay i don’t ever think he would of become the defender we’d of hoped.

Comment #59i prefer williamson tbh. him and colo proved they have the potential to form a formidable partnership. and then to think campbell as back up, as well as kadar and tavernier, i think it is the right decision to let him go.

Comment #60geordielad880 – thats the other thing if he thinks he will be able to demand 60k at the end of the season having not played at all this, he must be stupid.
like i say it will only be mid table and lower clubs sniffing around this window, in case they have to compete with bigger clubs in jan, although i cant see which big club would be interested unless he was a free agent

Comment #61he is a greedy arrogant prick, end of story.
And as a player, he is slow, caught out of position all the time, and constantly gives away fouls in bad positions, williamson is a better player

Comment #63How can people use this to Ashley Bash? He is setting the club up financially for the long term, and as we see clubs fall into administration over the coming years, we will be laughing. Not even to mention if FIFA are successful with there “live within your means” crap!
£60k is massive for someone is injured regularly and is yet to cement a 1st team position. Carroll for example is asking for half of what Taylor is according to reports, but arguably warrants more at present!! I agree with comment earlier that this stinks of Agent influence!
Gone are they days where Newcastle are mugs in the Transfer Market, contract negotiations and in the Press, and personally i love it (love it!! :)).
If ST goes, try and get Wheater or Boyata in, and wouldnt mind getting McFadden if Birmingham get N’somnia! COuld still do with a striker.
Come on the toon!!
PS it might be worth backing Both Teams to Score tonight with Sky Bet, great value!!

Comment #66He played about half our games in the Championship I think, no doubt losing him is bad for the club, especialy for the price we will get for him (been injured with a year left on his contract), but if he is turning down a 40k a week contract then he can **** off for all I care.
I hope it isn’t true like, as I would prefer a comited Steven Taylor playing in a Newcastle shirt

Comment #72From what i’ve heard he doesn’t really fit into the set up of the club – there is very much an inner cycle, run by the likes of Harps, Smithy & Nolan – and Taylor isn’t a part of that.
After the whole incident with Andy Carroll – i think there was an element of divide in the camp. From what you see on the pitch now is obvious where most peoples loyalities lie.
Also, he hasn’t been involved in the first team for the best part of 8 months – i get the impression that his heart just isn’t in the club any more.

Comment #77howay man- I’d be surprised if we got anywhere near 5-6 million for him given his injury status and the fact he’s in his last year of contract. Any club would be foolish to pay that seeing as they can talk to him in January and get him for free next summer. I think we’d be lucky to get 3 million for him…..hope it’s more though.

Comment #78I think if a deal of £3+ million comes in then we should snap their hands off.
I’ve said previously he’s very overrated and I can’t help feeling he won’t be going to Liverpool, Everton et cetera and will only have an opportunity at a decent/good team along the lines Fulham.
He’s too injury-prone for me and I have thought for awhile we should sell him and bring Bougherra or someone equally good in.
