Shock news today that Sky Sports is reporting that Newcastle United have placed local boy Steven Taylor on the transfer list.
Steven Taylor – local lad wants to leave
The defender is currently out with a shoulder injury, and his contract runs out at the end of the season.
Taylor’s agent Paul Stretford recently admitted that negotiations over an extension to his contract were not progressing smoothly, and it looks like those talks have finally broken down.
Newcastle have decided to make Taylor available for transfer, after he has turned down their latest and final offer of a new deal.
And we have to think that was made easier by the good form shown by 26 year-old center-back Mike Williamson, who in the first two games of the PL season, has continued his excellent form of last season, and looked outstanding.
The deal offered to Steven was thought to be around £40K a week, which is a slight improvement on what he was already making at his home-town club, but it looks like that wasn’t enough for the Greenwich-born player.
The news is that Taylor’s representatives wanted something closer to £60K.
The 24-year-old has been with Newcastle since the very start of his career, and he was a former ball-boy when the great Kevin Keegan managed the club, and has played 179 times with 10 goals for Newcastle United.
We are sorry to hear about this – but if the lad wants more money elsewhere – so be it.
The policy of only keeping players who want to play for the Newcastle club, has worked famously over these last 13 months or so, but Steven will also be a big miss at the Newcastle club and we’re sure manager Chris Hughton will be sorry to see him leave.
We expect there to be an immediate demand for his services from some top Premier League clubs.
Comments welcome.

Comment #81Ohara and johnson are fringe players and are both part of 35+ squads that need to be trimmed.
Stephen Sunday is very talented
and cian hughton is chris’s son and is also a very good young centre half.

Comment #82Taylor was only born in Greenwich of Geordie parents and came up here very soon after. It must be by now that the smell of the Thames is out of his nostrils and replaced by the Tyne? I did think he would develop more than he did and it was on the cards him not being part of the 25 squad. Funny thing – I think his injury will clear up quite quickly now. It seems his valuation of himself was more than that of NUFC. As it stands we need to sell him within the next 6 days – still a pity it has come to pass this way. Just told my son the news on his way home from the job centre! They did not offer him £40.ooo. Wonder why?

Comment #84what is it with bougherra?? he is terrible, sorry i dont want another boumsong at the club, we need to sign players who are proven in the premiership.
I think 3-4 is realistic considering the situation, but only the smaller clubs would try and get him, to get one over on the bigger clubs, by signing him now, the rest will just wait i think, liverpool are favs to sign him according to reports

Redknapp has said he wont sell ohara for less than 5-6m, and johnson wont go for so little either, they will probably just loan him out, stephen sunday isnt better than what we have in my opinion.
So why isnt cian hughton already playing for the toon? where is he at?

Comment #87Sod him, he’s injured all the time, slow, has bad anticipation and can’t even handball without throwing himself about like tom daley, he wouldn’t get in any of the top 6 teams in the premiership, he’ll end up at Birmingham, Everton, or maybe even Fulham, greedy t*at, see ya later….

HE SHOULD HAVE BEEN SOLD AGES AGO.
PROBABLY THE MOST OVERRATED PLAYER AT THE CLUB AND ONE OF THE MOST OVERRATED IN THE PREM. NO POSITIONAL SENSE AND A TWAT MENTALITY.

Comment #95Geordie Jock I agree with you, I do not believe that ST deserves or worths 60K a week, but to treat him the way some, so called fans, do is a disgace. Geordielad880 you are entitled to your oppinion but you regularly go over the top, have you re-read your comments before the weekend? I suggest you come down from your high waring horse and enjoye with the majority of us the present good times. NUFC is on the right path withCH and (yes) MA at the moment and I am afraid that will not be enough humble pies in the North East for you to savour, unless you live in the South West

Comment #97we dont need o hara or johnson, we have just signed tiote, if we signed a midfielder, it should be a winger really, we have smith, nolan, guthrie, barton, tiote, and also vuckic.

Comment #103we spend 4.5 mil so far on tiote and perch..so if we can get 6 mil or so..the extra 1.5 mil can add to our previously amount which is intended to be used on hba and get him on permanent transfer..and loan one more defender in..

Comment #104If we sell him please do not smart thing and add a sell on clause as no doubt we will sell him for a minimal fee manybe 2-4 million £ as for a large part of the remainder of his contract he will be injured. He will most likely sign a 4 year deal and when he finds out he’s on the bench and wants a transefer someone is more likely to bid higher to the 8 million mark so let’s make sure we get a share!

Comment #105alan shearer, but that wont happen, ashley will keep the money to pay for tiote and perch, and i very much doubt the taylor decision had anything to do with hughton, if the contract talks break down, its the only other option really

Comment #108What a bunch of complete tossers come on here who know absolutely nothing about football. S Taylor is good defeneder who will one day be an outstanding defender unfortunately it doesn’t look like it will be with the Toon. He is a Geordie through & through he may have been born in Greenwich but his parents are Geordies and lived here since he was 1. Marke my words he will .be capatin of England one day & is twice the player Williamson & Perch are.

Comment #117Geordiedoonsooth – IMO he plays for himself as opposed to defending as a unit – dropping far too early to hide his lack of pace – he is out of position so often and because of that he unsettles the whole back line because of it – thereon allowing the opposition to bypass the others and make them look silly rather than Taylor.
Not sure if the Tyne bridge has a weight restriction but he should check it out as it may not stand the weight of his ego as he leaves town.

Any real geordie would be happy to play for a grand a week, who on here would kick up a fuss when your already on 40k a week and you want 60k a week? he is hugely overrated and infact if he was fit he wouldnt get into my starting 11. sell him off and get someone else
