Are Newcastle ready To Sign Hull’s Kamil Zayette?

The Sun are reporting today that Newcastle United are close to signing Kamil Zayatte from Hull City for £1.6M.

Kamil Zayatte – are Newcastle interested?

Newcastle manager Chris Hughton is said to want the Guinea center-back, who is now 25, and had a trial at both Everton and Newcastle two years ago, but eventually signed for Hull City on a three year deal in January of 2009.

With Hull being relegated last season, the Humberside club are anxious to reduce their wage bill, and would like to unload their 21 times capped Guinea International,  who has played over 60 times at Hull.

This story has been around a little while now, and we’re not sure what to make of it – but at just £1.6M we have to think the 6’1″ defender, who can also play in defensive midfield, would be a decent buy for Newcastle.

What do you think?

Comments welcome.

Although being a reader for many years this is my first post. So hello and Ed keep up the brilliant and tireless work you have been doing.

Personally think there’s gonna be a few stories regarding signing centrebacks with wor Tayls being put for sale. But i feel it’s not a position we need to focus on with williamson proving to be a fantastic player and man! Also young Kadar hasnt let us down yet has he?

Cover at left back and wings remains priority. what happens when Jonas and Routledge are out? NO width!

    Let’s sort that out please

SSN: “Chelsea have confirmed that defender Michael Mancienne has gone back to Wolves for another season-long loan spell. We’ll bring you more on this shortly. “

He was solid for Hull and he’s a big strong defender who is pretty quick…………

As a replacement for S.Taylor i am not sure if its great buisness, but then again, if he’s £1.5-£2M and we sell taylor for say £6m then we could get 2 more shrewd chris hughton signings in and that would beef up our squad and get rid of a problem if there was one 🙂

I think we need a CB if S.Taylor goes even it is just for cover. but i still think we need LB winger and maybe a striker

Zayatte is a decent player. Likes scoring in his own nets !! Think we can afford better options than him.. Please say no to him

I dont think we have missed stayls so I dont mind seeing him go if we get a good price. He could be a woodgate. Massive potential but a massive injury risk

Yohan Benaloune(pardon me for the spelling) sounded a good buy for me. But looks like he is moving to Juventus 🙁

Not such a loss if we loose Taylor but we need to make the right signings, and this guy i dont see strenghting our squad.
We need attacking options and theres not long to get them

If there’s one thing Hoots knows about it’s defenders!! I got faith that whoever he brings in will be right for us. Zayatte maybe not the greatest footballer but he’s another no nonsense type and he can play in a few positions. Depends entirely on price and wage demands but it’s worth a look

As ever, when a club is skint, the young’uns get a look in. I hope LuaLua and Ranger get 20 minutes now and then until they develop into first team regulars or we can find better players and let them go. Ranger needs an attitude transplant but there’s no doubting his talent.
    – Trouble is he’s probably as big a handful for CH as he is for opposition defenders!

no way can you compare taylor to woodgate in anything but injuries. woodgate was quite simply the classiest and best defender we have ever had. taylor is nowhere near Woodgate’s league, not even potentially close.

The Taylor situation could be a double bluff by NUFC, put him up for £5m, no one is going to pay that. Gives him time to reconsider. If he goes so be it but go quickly so we can get someone else in. I would give Taylor a deadline of Friday to make his mind up.

This is why Taylor leaving is bad for us and why I realy hope he stays.

We would be replacing him with a 35 year old for about the same price as we sold him for.

Fabrice Muamba and Marc Wilson would top of the summer spending with an attacking player aswell and maybe Ryan Taylor and Smitty going

If Taylor leaves there’s 3 options IMO

    1: Hangeland

    2: Lescott

    3: G.Cahill

I hope Taylor will stay.I think he’s a great lad that really wants to play for NUFC.Everyone likes money and maybe he wants to test NUFC but they seems too strict to ther new policies and Taylor will understand that. I’m sure he’ll sign a new contract shortly.HE’S A GEORDIE
