We have heard today from our new signing Cheick Tiote, and the Ivory Coast International has talked of his pride after finally completing his move to Newcastle United.
Cheick Tiote - thrilled to be joining such a famous club as Newcastle
The defensive midfielder passed a medical and agreed terms last weekend, and a Newcastle delegation was in London yesterday in efforts to get a work permit for the player, which they expect to come through within the next 48 hours, although Tiote will not be in the squad for the Wolves game tomorrow afternoon.
And it seems that Tiote can’t wait to get his St James’ Park career off and running, as he said today:
“It’s a great thrill for me to be joining such a famous club as Newcastle United,” “I’m aware of the great tradition of the club, and the tremendous support they get from the fans.”
“I’m really looking forward to testing myself against the best that the Premier League has to offer, and delighted also that I’ll be up against friends and colleagues from my home country who are already playing in England.”
“This is a really proud moment for me, and I can’t wait to pull on the black and white shirt and do my best to help Newcastle United have a successful season.”
Those are excellent words from our new signing, and as we has reported, as soon as he heard Newcastle United were interested in him, he just wanted to sign for the Tyneside club.
Tiote is Chris Hughton’s fourth signing of the summer, and the Newcastle manager seems confident the tough tackling former FC Twente player and current Ivory Coast International will prove a very good investment:
“Cheik is a terrific signing for us, and I’m sure he will prove to be an excellent addition to the squad,” ”He has a first-class pedigree, and I think his game is well suited to the Premier League.”
“He did well with the Ivory Coast in the World Cup, and is just reaching an age where his best years are now ahead of him.”
The player has yet to join up with his new team mates at Newcastle, and he is expected to be on international duty next week.
We look forward the Cheick making his first team debut, and he will give Alan Smith some severe competition for that defensive midfield position at Newcastle this season.
Comments welcome.

Welcome to the club Cheick!
This boy could be a very good addition judging from all I’ve looked up and heard about him. Also think this could spur Smith on to new heights as well as he’s started the season well and looks sharp and up for it already.

blah blah – doubt tiote really cares he’s playing for toon but more the fact we’re paying him a lot more than he was on in the dutch league and he gets the chance to prove himself in the worlds best league
fair enough, as long as he puts the effort in and does a job then great, please do not start kissing the badge every 5 mins, lets leave that to the chelski mercenarys – just do your job and we’ll love you anyway

good news, just need Arfa n Keane then we’ll be sorted. However I dont think we’ll get both, we’ll probably get one or the other. Keane would be great but would we need him if we get Arfa? I dont think so if we stick with the 451 because Lovenkrands, shola and xicso we proving backup for Carroll in the lone striker position.
——————-Harper————————
Perch—-Collo—-Williamson—-Enrique
———–Tiote————Barton————-
——————-Nolan————————
Ben Arfa———————————Jonas
——————–Carroll———————
Subs: Krul, Campbell, S.Taylor, R.Taylor, Routeledge, Xisco, Lovenkrands.
Thats would leave Kadar, Tavenier, Smith, Donaldson, Lua Lua, Ranger and Ameobi all vying for a place in the 1st team.
Healthy squad or what?

I think tiotes a great signing but its a great deal for him as well, hopefully he’ll be the midfield enforcer and replace Smith ( who I like but he just isn’t good enough)
All that badge kissing I love the club rubbish is just that …. rubbish
Then again I suppose he can hardly say – it’s great toon have doubled my wages and i get to showcase my talents in one of the best leagues in the world

We’re actually starting to look pretty good. I’s still take 17th come the end of the season. It’s all about staying in the league this time out. Anything else is a bonus.
Big welcome to Cheick. Most welcome here.

It just makes you think how exciting it is, Andy Carroll is still just 21, look at the quality he has now, players tend to peak at 24/25 so by then he will be immense!

You are too cynical mate.
A player that was playing in a lower quality league and now moving to a club in the PL, a club that showed last year and starting to show this year, sparks of a very solid club.
Why shouldn’t he be happy?
Of course the wage part is important, we live in a financial world and people need money, so the more the better.
But take it easy, give him a chance. after 3-4 games you can already see if the player plays with heart and how he acts when the team wins or loses. Although for example Colo wasn’t much of a soul fighter for us the first season, but he proved himself last year, staid in the club and fought like a lion.
We need to be happy that players that we want, want also to come and play here. We suffered a great deal in the past 3-4 years, of players not wanting to come here because we are too much away from London, or other excuses like that.

36 Mags // Aug 27, 2010 at 12:21 PM
Edd Case – like it. Get to work on one for Hatem Ben Arfa
37 Tom // Aug 27, 2010 at 12:42 PM
If we can manage to get Ben Arfa, then the team for Blackpool could look rather rosy. Something along the lines of:
———————–Harper—————–
Perch—Williamson—Coloccini—Enrique
————–Tiote———Barton
Routledge——–Ben Arfa————-Jonas
—————————Carroll———-
It would be great to finally get three creative players on the pitch in the midfield, it would mean defenders couldn’t double up on our wingers anymore, and we would have someone in behind the main striker who can slide balls along the ground as well as potentially crossing them in. Add to that Joey Barton who, if he continues this rejuvination in form he is having, could be very important, as well as Tiote to shore up the midfield and protect the backline
Then we have the likes of Smith, Guthrie, Nolan, Lovenkrands etc on the bench who can add something different
38 Edd Case // Aug 27, 2010 at 12:52 PM
Tom, for heavens sake.
NOLAN IS OUR CLUB CAPTAIN, HE WILL VIRTUALLY ALWAYS START PREM GAMES WHEN FIT.
If HBA does sign, it’ll be Routledge that loses his place. I say that based on Jonas being the stronger player out of Routledge and Jonas AND you need only look at HBA on youtube to see he is exceptional in the right winger position, cutting in from the right (as he’s very left-footed).
That said, as CH says, he can play anywhere along the front line.
But Nolan WILL start and so he should, on his day, he’s as good as many at getting goals and causing opposition defenders problems.

Tiote from what i heard is a very hardworking defensive midfielder such those of Yaya Toure type – good for us!
