The Newcastle Journal is reporting this morning that 23 year-old Ben Arfa completed a medical last night, and is likely to sign for the Newcastle club today.
Ben Arfa – passed medical last night – signing today?
The move will become a permanent one if the French International plays in 25 games this season, and the fee is said to be set at a rather low £5M.
Ben Arfa comes to Newcastle with a reputation as a a bad boy, having argued with many of his team mates in the past, and he has fallen out with Marseilles manager Dider Deschamps, the French captain when France won the World Cup in 1998 by beating Brazil 3-0 in the final.
But the Newcastle boss Chris Hughton last night thought he could handle the lad, and of course a good manager needs to handle all sorts of temperaments and personalities.
And Chris has already shown as a manager that he is adept at keeping players happy and motivated, and indeed improving their play – by telling them exactly the things they need to work on.
The fact that it seems Newcastle have tied up the Ben Arfa deal reflects so well on the Newcastle club, with the hierarchy saying absolutely nothing during the last several weeks, and Chris Hughton giving minimal news on any progress being made – on anything in the transfer market.
And next up would appear to be 30 year-old Robbie Keane, although several clubs are after the Irish captain, and his loan fee for the season will not come cheaply. But the fact that Chris Hughton knows the player well, from his coaching at both Tottenham and Ireland, could help to swing the deal Newcastle’s way.
And Keane may be the experienced PL striker that Chris Hughton has said he has wanted in the squad for the coming season, and it seems that Newcastle fans are excited by the prospect of having a man that gives 100% every game and is a very good footballer.
News that he has signed today will come as great news for Newcastle fans, as would a win today at Wolverhampton.
Howay The Lads!!
