Ben Arfa Passes Newcastle Medical – Expected To Sign Today

The Newcastle Journal is reporting this morning that 23 year-old Ben Arfa completed a medical last night,  and is likely to sign for the Newcastle club today.

Ben Arfa – passed medical last night – signing today?

The move will become a permanent  one if the French International plays in 25 games this season, and the fee is said to be set at a rather low £5M.

Ben Arfa comes to Newcastle with a reputation as a a bad boy, having argued with many of his team mates in the past, and he has fallen out with Marseilles manager Dider Deschamps, the French captain when France won the World Cup in 1998 by beating Brazil 3-0 in the final.

But the Newcastle boss Chris Hughton last night thought he could handle the lad, and of course a good manager needs to handle all sorts of temperaments and personalities.

And Chris has already shown as a manager that he is adept at keeping players happy and motivated, and indeed improving their play – by telling them exactly the things they need to work on.

The fact that it seems Newcastle have tied up the Ben Arfa deal reflects so well on the Newcastle club, with the hierarchy saying absolutely nothing during the last several weeks, and Chris Hughton giving minimal news on any progress being made – on anything in the transfer market.

And next up would appear to be 30 year-old Robbie Keane, although several clubs are after the Irish captain, and his loan fee for the season will not come cheaply. But the fact that Chris Hughton knows the player well, from his coaching at both Tottenham and Ireland, could help to swing the deal Newcastle’s way.

And Keane  may be the experienced PL striker that Chris Hughton has said he has wanted in the squad for the coming season, and it seems that Newcastle fans are excited by the prospect of having a man that gives 100% every game and is a very good footballer.

News that he has signed today will come as great news for Newcastle fans, as would a win today at Wolverhampton.

Howay The Lads!!

When both lads are officially confirmed as Newcastle players for the season I hope the number of doubters of CH and Ashley would come open amd apologise.
What ever Ashley has done in the past, he has got rid of the dennis wises from his entourage and he seems to run a very good and sound outfit in NUFC, let’s hope long may continues

Great news!!! Arfa is a Geordie, Arfa is a Geordie la la la la! lol

BTW does anyone know if the kid speaks English very well? Just wondered because I don’t think there’s too many French speaking players at our club if any.

Hopefully I just minor issue but I think he’d get settled here much quicker if he does already speak at least basic English.

Shows that CH is confident about handling a personality like HBA in the dressing room. Takes a big man to take the ownership.

    Howay the lads!

A lot of footballer gives their everything. Doesn’t mean they’re class. (Shola…)

Old, lacking real speed, haven’t been good in a while (in a decent league, mind). Also I don’t like his attitude/personality (a bit hypocritical as I love the possible signing of Ben Arfa, but there really is a big difference between the two of them as footballers.)

A great deal of credit to Chris & our much maligned owner for pulling this one off, I’m really looking forward to seeing this lad play.

Off topic I know, but I think the NUST objections to the clubs planning applications for some large signs @ SJP is misguided. They don’t know the full story & could be deprieving the club of some much needed additional revenue.

really good news =) HBA’s exactly what we need..

as for keane..why would we want to sign him? we have: carroll, shola, xisco, ranger, best, lovenkrands. that’s 6 strikers & chris only plays with 1…so why? that’s not a way to make players happy. we should have 4 strikers max..not 7 again.. like few seasons back when we had: viduka, owen, martins, carroll, loven, xisco & ranger coming through the ranks. unless we get rid off some of the players i say NO to keane..+ he’s past his best..& already rich but would demand a huge wage. so what would be the point of it?

HBA covers both flanks & can play off AC. RK’s extra firepower, a little insurance if da big man’s out. Lets get DB now!

why do we have them then? just as virtual competition? send them out on loan or dont bring anyone else in. u cant have 7 strikers..play with only 1 & expect everyone to be happy. it’s stupid. it’s a nice way to destroy team’s morale.

penguin PJ Nolan is not even close to being a dm and is even shocking at cm due to the fact he cant move with the ball at any sort of pace. The only place he can play is 2nd st like he currently does as he is a great finisher in and around the area that is it.

    Toon fan 83,
I agree but I cannot see CH dropping the captain. As stated earlier @28, Nolan is too slow to be centre mid. He plays in the hole next to the striker (where Ben will play I presume) and should not hold down a place in centre mid. Barton and Guthrie are much stronger there than Nolan.

I don’t think Houghton will but Arfa on the left wing if he signs, even thought this is perhaps his most natural position, as he will want to retain the excellent enrique/jonas partnership. I would put him on the left wing instead of routledge or inside left in a 451 formation like so……

    442
    ……………..Harps

    Perch…..Willi……Collo……Enrique

    Arfa….Barton…smith/Tiote……Jonas

…………..Lova (or Arfa if playing routledge)

    ………………………….Carroll

    451/433
    …………………..Harper

    Perch…..Willi……Collo……Enrique

    ……………..Smith/Tiote……………….

    ………..Barton…………….Arfa

    R’ledge…………………………….Jonas

    …………………Carroll

Starting to look good!!! H’way the lads!

Massive opportunity to get 6 points from Wolves and blackpool….just hope we’re brave enough today away from home to go for it, but I think houghon will play a sensible 451 setup, with perhaps tiote AND smith.

JonathanGuttirez, yeah I hear u man. According to McClaren Tiote has pace & support any attacking plays. The boy scored 22 goals playin in dat role but then again its the Dutch League eh? Kezman & Kuts score for fun there. Would u rather have Nolan or Smith there? Kinda picks itself dun ya think

Btw we got Chelski for CC..again. Yawn
