Hughton Disappointed Not To Get The Win At Wolves

Chris Hughton revealed that Andy Carroll played with a slight ankle injury today, and the Newcastle boss was disappointed not to get all 3 points at Moyneux this afternoon.

Chris Hughton – disappointed not to get the win

Hughton told Sky Sports after the game today that Andy played with a slight ankle knock:

“He’s a tough boy, Andy, he played through an ankle (injury) that he sustained a few days ago and hasn’t trained for four days,”

“He put himself right up for the game and that’s the type of individual he is and we just had to make sure that he was OK towards the end (by substituting him).”

“Arguably, it wasn’t one of his better games but he has shown that, even in a performance that hasn’t matched his last two performances, he’s always a threat.”  “The delivery for the goal was a top class delivery and at the moment there’s nobody better to have on the end of it than Andy.”

Carroll’s goal took his league total to four in just three games, although he did miss one or two chances today, including an open goal just before half time, from just 6 yards out.

There will be more calls for manager Fabio Capello to include him in the  England squad, but Chris just wants him to concentrate on playing for Newcastle – good thinking Chris!

Chris continued:

“All he can keep doing is keep performing well for Newcastle United which is the most important thing for him and of course scoring goals.”   “I thought we were the better of the two teams so we’re disappointed not to have capitalised on that,”

“We had the better of the chances over the 90 minutes, we started the game very well but you know when you come here, particularly how Wolves fared last season, it’s going to be a tough game.”

“We probably gave away a few too many free-kicks in that last period which made it much more difficult than we would have liked.” “I’m a little bit disappointed but a point here is always a good point.”

We should have won today, but that’s the nature of football and things tend to even themselves out over the season, so not to be too concerned.

We were still quite pleased with the draw to get us on 4 points.

Comments welcome.

I am disappointed we didn’t come away with 3 points. I think most Toon fans would have taken a draw prior to kickoff. Post match I think we all feel like we left 2 pts behind today. We should have won today, nevertheless I am pleased.

we cant get carried away with point at wolves. the fact he played carroll with an injury demonstrates the lack of faith in the other strikers at club and the need for some proven firepower, anybody heard antin on keano. he would be the perfect poacher not many strikers around with 41 international goals at 29 yrs old the kids lethal when hes happy hed love playing in front of the toon

We got Sol Campbell to help our inexperienced defenders cope with the EPL.
We have Haprs for Krul and a quite experienced midfielders.
Who is gonna tutor Andy? Shola???? Don’t think so. We NEED an experienced striker who doesn’t feel threatened by AC. Get Robbie Keane, if the coach likes him he is good for me and should be good for Ashley. You can’t live up with expectations in the Premier League with a bunch of frequently injured lads (love, shola etc.).

And loan out Ranger, LuaLua, Donaldson. They need playing time and there aren’t any Accrigton Stanleys anymore.

P.S.: For GOD’s shake! Chelsea??? What a lucky lucky draw….

Chelsea will feild kids, we wont, so good chance of a win, draw at worse, back to the Toon, win.
We could go through, you never know.

By the way, does HBA speak English?
I aks because looking at our squad, no one seems to be an obvious French speaker…
    Hope he does.

    @Davis_Toons.
Watched so many you tube links recently and have to say that we have a fantastic player in Ben Arfa. He will absolutely tear to pieces some players in teams that we will play this season. Well done too Hoots and the board for getting this boy as he is pure class.

I honestly beleive that we got Wor Ben on loan was beacuase we could then spend a bit elsewhere and then pay for Wor Ben at a later stage. I think that we are at least trying to get someone else on permanent.

Apart from the free kick, i think most tricks was not really easy to perform in this league.

Not as fast as Nani from what i think. BTW, that Nani guy is starting to perform.
