Chris Hughton revealed that Andy Carroll played with a slight ankle injury today, and the Newcastle boss was disappointed not to get all 3 points at Moyneux this afternoon.
Chris Hughton – disappointed not to get the win
Hughton told Sky Sports after the game today that Andy played with a slight ankle knock:
“He’s a tough boy, Andy, he played through an ankle (injury) that he sustained a few days ago and hasn’t trained for four days,”
“He put himself right up for the game and that’s the type of individual he is and we just had to make sure that he was OK towards the end (by substituting him).”
“Arguably, it wasn’t one of his better games but he has shown that, even in a performance that hasn’t matched his last two performances, he’s always a threat.” “The delivery for the goal was a top class delivery and at the moment there’s nobody better to have on the end of it than Andy.”
Carroll’s goal took his league total to four in just three games, although he did miss one or two chances today, including an open goal just before half time, from just 6 yards out.
There will be more calls for manager Fabio Capello to include him in the England squad, but Chris just wants him to concentrate on playing for Newcastle – good thinking Chris!
Chris continued:
“All he can keep doing is keep performing well for Newcastle United which is the most important thing for him and of course scoring goals.” “I thought we were the better of the two teams so we’re disappointed not to have capitalised on that,”
“We had the better of the chances over the 90 minutes, we started the game very well but you know when you come here, particularly how Wolves fared last season, it’s going to be a tough game.”
“We probably gave away a few too many free-kicks in that last period which made it much more difficult than we would have liked.” “I’m a little bit disappointed but a point here is always a good point.”
We should have won today, but that’s the nature of football and things tend to even themselves out over the season, so not to be too concerned.
We were still quite pleased with the draw to get us on 4 points.
Comments welcome.

Comment #41Who is going to play if Enrique is injured?
This is really true Dino Cavalcante. (There is subs in the bench just not good enough but this is what we can afford at this present moment i guess?)

Comment #44and TOONSTER – ”with totts losing 2day it realy isnt hopeful…keane is a very good talented OLD striker”
OLD??????????????
THE GUY HAS JUST TURNED 30!!!!!
Get a grip man!!! players dont just dissappear when they pass the age of 29 for crying out loud. thats where arsenal have been going wrong over the last few seasons….great football but with a team that has not that many experienced/older heads in it.
Im certian that some people on this blog know absolutely nothing about football as a game.
its embarrassing sometimes, it really is.

Comment #47After watching smith play today.
I think the new signing needs to come in quick!
He did perform ok but he really cant make it in the Def mid area. i think Barton will do the job even better.
he just didnt checkout his Left and Right side for teamates. Cant do a long pass as even, this is expect from a def mid to break away.

Comment #48I think Robbie Keane is top drawer put the ball in at his feet in and around the box and he can make thinks happen and has the ability to do things that other players cannot

Comment #49i think keane is a good player with good footballing brains.
He might lost his pace but Not his brain.
He can spread play unlike smith.
He gets into position and score odd goals
It will be good to have him, for the younger generation to pick up.
Good Signing for now, Get him in Please!

Comment #52I think he is just a bit “down” / “off form” after signing for pool and back to spurs. Bad decision.
But is a good one if we can get him.

Comment #57Liking the look of that, Dennis. I’d probably put BA on the right and move Routledge more into an advanced RAM role in 4-5-1.
As for Keane being “old” – so is Scholes. Look what season he’s had so far (no, I’m not saying Keane is on Scholes level at all but it’s entirely possible to play a game with your head).

That is going to be our strongest line up this season.
I think Tiote will play on his own in the DM position though, with Barton and Nolan more advanced, HBA and Jonas on the wings.
Can’t see Keane coming – where would you play him?
4-4-2, Keane and Carroll up top yeah sure, but that means one dropped from midfield…HBA will start, Jonas will start, Tiote you’d think would start…
If Keane arrives, expect
HBA – BARTON – NOLAN – JONAS
——–CARROLL – KEANE——-
Smith, Tiote, Guthrie wont start if Keane signs.
This also pushes Vuckic further down the ladder, not to mention Ranger and Best.
And where does Xisco fit in?
I cannot see CH wanting to bring Keane in, we’re ok in midfield and up top now.
