Newcastle Bid £8M For 21 Year-Old Dutch Striker

We published a report yesterday that Newcastle were after 21 year old Dutch striker Ricky van Wolfswinkel.

Ricky Van Wolfswinkel – Newcastle bid £8M?

And the news this morning is that it looks like Newcastle have bid an amazing £8M for the striker, according to the Daily Mirror. We don’t know how true these reports are, but there are wide reports that Newcastle are after the youngster.

The 21-year-old 6’1″ striker has gained increasing focus from several major European clubs in the last few weeks, after starting this season in brilliant form for his Dutch club, Utrecht, and scoring on his International debut for the Netherlands against Ukraine, earlier this month.

The Woudenberg, Netherlands born player has a prolific goalscoring record for the Dutch Eredivise side, and has scored 12 goals this season already, and in his 78 senior games so far, he has scored 32 goals, and looks a natural goal-scorer.

And of course the striker hit a hat-trick last week as Utrecht put Celtic out of the Europa League, with an amazing 4-0 home win.  This may be a pleasant surprise if the deal gets done in the next couple of days, so we’ll just have to wait and see.

Newcastle also are reported to have had a scout at Portsmouth over the weekend to watch one of  Newcastle’s  targets, 23 year-old 6’2″ center-back  Marc Wilson, but we’d be surprised if Newcastle go for Marc, unless Steven Taylor is leaving the club over his contract difficulties.

And there is still a very good chance that Spurs striker Robbie Keane will arrive on Tyneside for a season long loan deal,  before tomorrow afternoon, and  Newcastle will have an option to buy the Irish captain for £6M next summer.

Keep your seat-belts fastened for the next 40 hours or so, until the transfer window closes at 5:00pm tomorrow afternoon.

Comments welcome.

If this is true I’ll show my @r$e in Fenwicks window. We can’t afford £8M.

£15m? I’ll have some of whatever you’re on.

Wouldn’t mind this lad but £8m is quite a risk for an unproven youngster…

    from .com

Hopes that Newcastle would secure the services of a third international in a week receded on Sunday, when Spurs striker Robbie Keane ducked out of a loan move to SJP.

It’s unclear whether the Republic of Ireland forward will now remain at White Hart Lane or move elsewhere before Tuesday – or whether the Magpies remain in the market for another front man in this transfer window.

Talk of a possible loan move for 30 year-old Keane had first surfaced earlier in the week, with Chris Hughton telling reporters on Friday morning that:

“His name has been mentioned and that is what we would expect at this stage. We are close to the end of the transfer window. He is, though, a player who I know very well. There is an association there and a connection.”

Unconfirmed reports then circulated that Keane was in the region for a medical, although this now looks to have been wide of the mark. Nonetheless, an offer was made to him.

Hi everyone 🙂 first checked out the site at the start of the transfer window and have followed ed’s work very closely 🙂 believe it or not I am only 14 so this may come as a surprise me posting on here but anyway on to the nitty gritty 🙂 I personally can’t see this happening but it will be very interesting to see the end of this window whether there will be any more fresh new faces at SJP this summer ! Very well done by Mike Ashley and Derek Lambias ( please excuse the spelling ) finally you have done the toon proud ! Now for the season ahead !

Toon_Daft, serious question like, what is the point in reading this blog if you are “only interested in official news”?

    Go to nufc.co.uk for that.

anyways a dont think this wolf kid will hack the prem like a think he’l get bossed about, if wher goin t spend 8mil a think we should get a proven striker or spend like 1.5mil on a young english striker with lots of potential(Charlie Austin)

So far CH has proved he is no mug in the transfer market. Also, if it is in the mirror, star, sun or daily mail we have to assume it’s probs pure speculation. I have to say that I am very impressed though with the way the current regime keeps all of the tabloids guessing. I may even email the mail with a Messi rumour just to see if they are daft enough to publish!

Back on track, not sure what I think of wolf, but Keane would be a great loan signing, but I would rather we avoided a permanent deal because of his age. No resale value = bad business.

sorry mate i disagree although i do respect your opinion, he’s done nothing in his career yet to warrant payin 15million he’s had 1 cap for holland hardly a world beater and hes scored 12 of his 32 goals this season so yes he may be gettin better bt its the dutch league its shiite ameobi would score hatfulls in tht league

Agree (for now) with post 18, but only because the only time I have seen him play and payed attention was the Celtic game. Would keep an eye on for 6 months, but frankly scoring 3 against Celtic doesn’t even convince me he is worth the 8M.

I agree 8 million seems too steep, and I doubt it’s credability anyway.

MA did splash out 10+ for Colo though, so it wouldn’t be beyond him (although very inlikely).

ive just watched a youtube thing of his goals basically all are tap ins like poacher goals and he a rather lot of sitters and chose to shoot rather than pass i wouldnt pay 8 million for him like maybe 5 and increase on like appearances/goals/international
bt suppose thts capital outlay which isnt goin t happen

The Keane deal is off. No doubt. That’s probably why we now are linked to other strikers as well.

I do though think that we don’t have 8 mp to spend. In my opinion it would be a bit too much anyway.. He has got a good goal ratio, but Utrecht fans don’t really rate him as good enough for the Premiership, and he doesn’t seem to be really good in anything specific, nor have great speed. Could of course be a new VAN Nistelrooy…
