Hughton Happy With Five Players Through The Door – So Far

Newcastle have brought in James Perch, Dan Gosling, Sol Campbell, Cheick Tiote and Hatem Ben Arfa so far in the summer transfer window, and that could be it.

Cheick Tiote – 4th player through the door at Newcastle

Chris Hughton was refusing to rule out any late developments in the transfer window today however, so obviously the club is still working on one or two deals, but the manager seems pleased with the five new additions, as are most of the Newcastle fans.

And it seems that Sol Campbell is now fit, and playing well in training, and will turn out for the Reserve side at the Stadium of Light tonight against the Sunderland second string.

Hughton told the Evening Chronicle today:

“It’s a massive boost for Sol to be able to play tonight.” “He’s been available to us to play for a while now and this is a good opportunity for him to play.”

“With the way it has worked out with international football in the next week or so, we hope that we can bring him up to speed.”  “You need to have good options and I would rather have many decisions to make than have none at all.”

“As we all know, it’s not just about the starting XI it’s about those who are backing it up as well and we have that now.”

Xisco is also expected to play at the Stadium of Light tonight after recovering from his slight groin injury, and it seems the Spanish 24 year-old will be at Newcastle ate least through January, and will get his chance to impress for the Newcastle side until then.

I am pleased Xisco is staying at NUFC. Still reckon he can play well for us. The deadline seems to be another deadpan saga so far. Looks like Steve Taylor is not moving either.

There are worrying rumours of Heskey being at the Toon! I hope this is not true, he is a player that will bring nothing new to the team. Don’t see him as that much better that Stroller.

Afraid the only reason Xisco isn’t moving is because no-one will have him on that money. The Taylor thing is more worrying – is he going to ‘Do an Arfa’ and sit this one out? Or will he sign a new contract?

We now have half a new team of out field players to add to the squad, not a bad window in my view. Thankfully we have a superb choice in the G/K dept but that was never an issue. Now there is a decent backup for the bench we should be looking to get to mid table or above, here’s hoping.

dont forget we get two extra signings in the form of fit again joey barton and xisco, when comparing the team with last season’s, so we have 7 new additions to be said, plus tavernier and vuckic for backup.

    John @20
In fact a player who is reputed to be similar to Essien, has been the very type of player this side has lacked and we may ( if he lives up to his rep.)
have a real DM who can boss the side, instead of a failed striker with more perspiration than inspiration, in that role.
Talking bout Tiote and Smith here!

It`s also certain that we have made a major coup in acquiring Ben Arfa, who will entertain the hell out of Newcastle fans and provide the skills to break down sides, by taking on defenders, combined with the ability to both feed the strikers and get an occasional goal himself, we are lucky to have two talented players like these.

As for Sol, here`s a guy with talent, experience and would be an asset to any side, hopefully the other defebders can learn from his example.

Jury`s still out on the others, Perch seems a bit lightweight, may have to bulk up, while Williamson has not looked outstanding, but I`m willing to give both time and the benefit of the doubt.

As for Gosling, coming back from a serious injury, many players never make it back and we cant expect much from him this season.
What with match fitness and unfimiliarality with team-mates, he may spend a lot of time on the bench, one for the future perhaps ?

See where Stoke has made a triple signing of Gudjohnsen and Pennant, plus Wilson from Portsmouth, not bad signings IMO.
We could certainly have used Gudjohnsen up front, all three in fact.
Thought Wigan had a bad start, will be interesting to see how they do this season, with a young and IMO good manager in charge and possibly the youngest squad in the league.
They have acquired Cleverly on loan and and may surprise a few twams, certainly surprised Spurs beating them in their own building.
Yeah we mat have done ok in the market, but so have our competiters, aint gonna be easy, but should be interesting as hell, this season.
