Wigan Athletic Get Tom Cleverley On Loan

It’s looking unlikely that Newcastle United will add to the five players they have so far brought through the door this summer, with the transfer window slamming shut in just over two hours time.

Tom Cleverley – joins Wigan on season long loan deal

Sky Sports is reporting that they understand  Wigan Athletic have signed Manchester United youngster Tom Cleverley, on loan for the season.

It seems that Alex Ferguson has been persuaded by the 21 year-old, to send him out on loan to the DW Stadium, where he should no doubt get lots of games.

The signing is seen as a coup for Wigan’s Spanish manager Roberto Martinez, and Wigan certainly need some strengthening, but it’s not clear whether Newcastle were still interested in the player, once Ben Arfa arrived from Marseilles on Saturday.

However, if the Wigan signing is true, then Martinez beat out Bolton Wanderers, since Owen Coyle was very keen on the youngster, who is an excellent young player of course, and it’s a very good signing for the Wigan club.

No more news yet on any potential new Newcastle signings.

Why would we be interested in wet-nursing one of the enemy at the expense of one of our own?

But Smith and Nolan really dont belong in our full strength squad any longer, especially Smith. Then its between Nolan and Routledge for the last space.

You say ganiyu is a mackem but realistically ben arfa and tiote > nolan and smith ability wise.

The new guys could easily replace them, although they have be brilliant for us, football is fickle and im sure as nufc fans we all want the best players in the squad on the pitch! So if i were manager i would drop nolan and smith for ben arfa and tiote any day of the week

i think that we are done in the transfer market now there has been no news on newcastle and SSN are reporting that we are not looking to bring any new players in, usually i would be dissapointed as i have been in the past but this time i am really optomistic that this team can easily finish mid-table 😀

The way I see our best team:

    Krul
    Gosling-Williamson-colo-enrique
    Tiote-Barton
    Routledge/Nolan-Ben Arfa-Jonas
    Carroll

The thing is though, while Nolan and Smith continue to play at the level they currently are, CH can’t justify completely dropping them. Ben Arfa and Tiote are going to have to fight to win their first team place.

Hoping for a new striker and some LB cover, but only an hour and a half to go. Not looking likely.

our best eleven when all fit is gonna be a tough choice for CH but i would pick…

    ……………………………Krul……………………………..

    Gosling……..Campbell….Williamson…….Enrique

    ………………..Barton……….Tiote……………………..

    Routledge…………….Ben Arfa…………………Jonas

    ……………………………Carroll………………………….

the way i see it is there is no chance that CH is going to drop kevin nolan for the simple reason that he is captain so it doesnt matter how much we think tht he doesnt deserve to be in the team because he always will be unless he gets injured.

I agree that Ben Arfa – Smith ability wise isn’t a contest. I don’t know enough about Tiote to comment on whether he’s better than Nolan

However it always astonishes how quickly people forget who the key people in our dressing room is. 2 seasons ago we went down because not enough players cared and people now want to start shipping the guys that got behind hoots and hauled us back up??

If or when we get established in prem again we can start looking at moving these players on right now we need all the help, grit and fight we can to stay up. Nolan, Smith and to a (much) lesser extent Ameobi will give everything for our shirt something too many players of our past cannot say.

Milzzy – Yuo should be comparing Tiote with Smith as they’re both DMs and Ben Arfa with nolan as they’d both play off Carroll.

That makes the choices so much easier.

Smith is either an attacker who doesn’t score or a defensive midfielder that can’t tackle, its a fact. Lets see how Tiote does this season

Jonas doesnt seem to be as committed as he was previously. Not sure if im being too harsh but he doesnt seem to be celebrating our goals much if at all. I see other lads rushing to the goal scoring, celebrating, but never Jonas (probably only the hat-trick Carroll scored).

It’ll be hard to pick the wings now really, glad I dont have to make the decision. Routledge has been doing a great job so far, Jonas can still weave his magic with his dribbling tho his ball in the final third needs polishing, HBA for me is a definite starter… And if CH players HBA in the attacking midfielder position, Nolan will sit in the central of the part. CH will be under the spotlight if he leaves Nolan out of squad after naming him captain. Tiote is a definite starter for me as well as Barton.

You see what I mean! Tough decision!

    @21

Nobody has forgotten that at all.

The point is we have signed new players that play in their positions and it goes like this…

    Tiote > Smith

    Ben Arfa> Nolan

Thats on ability. These players werent signed to sit on the bench lol, if we sign a player better than the one in the side no matter what they did for us last season, he has to play! I want Newcastle United to be the best team it can be, if that means upsetting a couple of gritty players then so be it lol.

If the choice was drop smith and nolan and get in top 6 or keep smith and nolan and finish in bottom 6 what would you choose?

The reality is though CH will not pick my first eleven, instead itll be something like this….

    ……………………..Harper…………………………

    Perch……..Williamson….Colo……..Enrique

    ……………….Barton……Tiote………………….

    Routledge………..Nolan……………..Ben Arfa

    …………………….Carroll………………………..

Which will still be an awesome team imo, we have some good times ahead and it makes a very welcome change to be talking about so many players that should be in the first team! How often has that happened? lol

I wish we’d sold a few tbh though, like ameobi and best (before he got injured) id love to give him a shot but fact is he’s not gonna get ahead of the others. Im struggling to find a place for lovenkrands anymore

thats a bit of a cheaky offer from celtic why would we want to send the lad out on loan so he could run his contract down at another club and then leave for nothing we might aswell keep him at newcastle as a back up then if he stull doesnt sighn a new contract let him gofor nowt at least we would have got another season out of him.

@27 Jonas and Routledge are quite similar being tricky players, but they both need to improve their final ball into the box.
However if one had to be left out of the squad i would pick Routledge because Enrique and Jonas have a good partnership and they link up well

*I posted about the lad earlier, my mate is a posh fan, we arent looking to sign the lad now, we have asked to be kept informed on the lad, maybe sign him in jan or the end of the season, and he would cost around 2m

I agree that team looks pretty exciting so I understand what you’re saying now and apologise for slightly flying off the handle!!

My point was that behind that you’ve then got the experience of players like Campbell, Smith, Lovenkrands etc which makes is starting to make it look like a really good squad. When comments like ‘Nolan,Smith out’ crop up it annoys me because as good as that team looks we will get injuries and we’re gonna need that back up.
