Steven Taylor Included In Newcastle’s 23 Man Squad

Newcastle United, like all teams in the Premier League have named their 25 man squad for the season until next January, and it’s been posted on the official site.

Steven Taylor – included in Newcastle’s 23 man squad

Newcastle United have submitted their squad of no more than 25 players to the Barclays Premier League, in accordance with the new regulations affecting all Premier League  clubs this season.

The list is taken from the Newcastle web-site and surprisingly it does not include Andy Carroll but does included Fraser Forster, and there are 23 players listed by our count.

The list does not include homegrown players under the age of 21, but they are still  eligible to play for the club this season. That means players like Nile Ranger, Haris Vuckic, James Tavernier and the like can play for the first team squad but are not included in the list.

And since Andy Carroll is not in the list, we assume this includes players 21 years-old and younger.

Clarification –  the rules state that if they are 21 years of age on the 1st January of this year, they can be included in the list, and since Andy wasn’t 21 until January 6th – that’s why he is not on the list.  Thanks to one of our readers for that one – see the initial comments on this article.

Surprisingly Fraser Forster is on the list, even though he is on loan at Celtic, and despite rumors to the contrary,  Steven Taylor is included in the squad, and we have to hope this is a good sign and an indication the local lad will soon sign his new contract.

Those rumors were in both the Evening Chronicle and the Journal, and were said to be a threat by the Newcastle club to get Steven to sign his contract.

The squad, seems like it’s a list of 23 players in total,  is as follows:

Sol Campbell
Steven Taylor
Shola Ameobi
Joey Barton
Danny Guthrie
Peter Lovenkrands
Jose Enrique
Alan Smith
Leon Best
Fabricio Coloccini
Jonas Gutierrez
Steve Harper
Kevin Nolan
Wayne Routledge
Danny Simpson
Ryan Taylor
Mike Williamson
Xisco
Fraser Forster
Tim Krul
James Perch
Cheik Tiote
Hatem Ben Arfa

Fraser Forster will be on loan to Celtic for the season, but maybe he’s included in case Harper or Krul are injured, and supposedly we will be able to recall him from his loan spell in that case.

That would make some sense.

Any comments on the list?

Yeah players 21 or younger as of today do not have to be registered, according to football manager anyways…

The Premier League rules state that players under 21 on 1st January of the year that the season starts do not have to be included. Carroll’s 21st birthday was in January, so he fits into that category, in the same way that he has qualified for the England Under 21 squad.

The Premier League rules state that any player contracted to the club must be declared, unless the squad does not have enough “home grown” players, or if they have too many players for all of them to be declared.

The source of the suggestion that Steve Taylor would not be included was a Sky reporter. He had clearly not done his homework, or expected Newcastle United to buy at least 3 more players than we did.

    I hope that helps.

“And since Andy Carroll is not in the list, we assume this includes players 21 years-old and younger, and not under 21”

It’s players that are 21 or under from January 1st.

ALSO WHY ARE PEOPLE SURPRISED ABOUT TAYLOR?!?

We have to re-name our 25 on February 1st, so we would gain nothing, literally NOTHING, from leaving Taylor out. We would still have to pay his wages, but he just wouldn’t play.

If we had 25 players I could maybe see us leaving him out, because of his injury mixed in with his possible sale, but with only 22 (excluding him) it makes NO SENSE!!

I see some free agents coming in. It’s the only reason why CH has named 23 with Carroll not In it……

Pretty happy with our squad lads. Only thing that could do with tinkering is our strikers. Notably Ameobi/Best to be replaced. But apart from that, I think we are good to go.

Hughton has been nothing short of amazing so far in his time as manager. But I think his true test is round the corner. How will he manage his now competitive squad? And will he be strong enough to drop players such as Nolan. (I am a big fan of playing him away from home but he does look awfully slow at times in this league.)

Anyway heres to a good season lads!
    Cant wait for Blackpool game.

I love the u21 rule! Our best player Andy Carroll is not included. LOL! But, I think this is a seriously descent squad. Definitely 10th or higher in my opinion. We still have place for 2 players.

I think Chris Hughton did an astonishing job with the limited amount of money he got. Gosling a bright future star, Hatem Ben Arfa just wait and see!!, Campbell his experience is brilliant for the youngsters and I think he can still do his lovely slide tackles. Perch is not bad at all, I think Cheik Tiote is our new Michael Essien. Can’t wait for the Blackpool game.

Well Ed. No Doubt our squad is much stronger now with some players (HBA of course).

In the Jan. Transfer window, I think we need to think about bringing a good Striker, to play a long side carroll, a real, strong and fast striker (not as tall, but more creative and\or with more technique).

So we are missing a Striker.
I think that with all due respect to Xisco, Ameobi and maybe even Love (+ haven’t saw Best play, ever, so don’t know about him) but I think all of the 4, are not that good as strikers. maybe we should send some of them away, unfortunatly, because they are good players, just not for the level we need. And bring a good Striker.

And I think we are missing a young (19-20) year old Midfielder that will be a sub for the heart of the middle of the pitch.

If we take that Nolan, Barton, Smith,Danny Guthrie are playing in the middle, then only Guthrie is a real classic midfielder, others are more aggresive, jump on the player, kick his ass kind of players, not the players that pass that beauitful pass to the AM or the Striker. (Maybe Vuckic is like that, but he is still to young).

HBA and Tiote are great, but Tiote is more of a DM and HBA is a 100% AM, so they are also a little bit not the type for the classic Mid.

Our defence is actually (very rear for us) good.
Players like Colo, S. Taylor, Enrique, Williamson (great catch), Cambell, and young Kadar, are all great players for us.
Maybe we are missing one defender, but you can’t have it all and I would take the chance of not bringing a defender. prefer a Mid and a Striker.

So: Someone like that Wolfasdkajsdkjl guy for the striker, and someone Mid. (there are meny in the market).

And why in the end we didn’t get the player that is the Fan of the team? He is not good?
