Newcastle United, like all teams in the Premier League have named their 25 man squad for the season until next January, and it’s been posted on the official site.
Steven Taylor – included in Newcastle’s 23 man squad
Newcastle United have submitted their squad of no more than 25 players to the Barclays Premier League, in accordance with the new regulations affecting all Premier League clubs this season.
The list is taken from the Newcastle web-site and surprisingly it does not include Andy Carroll but does included Fraser Forster, and there are 23 players listed by our count.
The list does not include homegrown players under the age of 21, but they are still eligible to play for the club this season. That means players like Nile Ranger, Haris Vuckic, James Tavernier and the like can play for the first team squad but are not included in the list.
And since Andy Carroll is not in the list, we assume this includes players 21 years-old and younger.
Clarification – the rules state that if they are 21 years of age on the 1st January of this year, they can be included in the list, and since Andy wasn’t 21 until January 6th – that’s why he is not on the list. Thanks to one of our readers for that one – see the initial comments on this article.
Surprisingly Fraser Forster is on the list, even though he is on loan at Celtic, and despite rumors to the contrary, Steven Taylor is included in the squad, and we have to hope this is a good sign and an indication the local lad will soon sign his new contract.
Those rumors were in both the Evening Chronicle and the Journal, and were said to be a threat by the Newcastle club to get Steven to sign his contract.
The squad, seems like it’s a list of 23 players in total, is as follows:
Hatem Ben Arfa
Fraser Forster will be on loan to Celtic for the season, but maybe he’s included in case Harper or Krul are injured, and supposedly we will be able to recall him from his loan spell in that case.
That would make some sense.
Any comments on the list?
