Newcastle – Chelsea Carling Cup 3rd Round Date Set

Newcastle will face a huge test in the third round of the Carling Cup, in just less than three weeks time.

The date has now been set for the Chelsea – Newcastle tie, and it will take place on Wednesday, September 22nd, at Stamford Bridge, with a 7:45 pm KO time.

We struggled mightily at Old Trafford in our first game of the season, when the Red Devils had  just too much class for the Newcastle’s side.

So it will be interesting to see if the lads have learned from that experience, because playing the reigning Premier League Champions at their home ground is not easy, to say the least.

That means the Carling Cup game comes between the  Newcastle league trip to Everton, and the Newcastle home game against Stoke City.

Shame we have drawn Chel$ki as this cup would have given the fringe players and young uns a chance to get some valuable experience.

Can see a stronger team travelling to Stamford Bridge now!

Set Tiote and Smith on them 😉

It will definitely be interesting to see who CH fields in the starting XI for this match.

Taking three points from Stoke the following Sunday is a far greater priority than this Cup.

I do agree MacToon, it would have nice to have an easier match up for the sake of the younger players.

Well I don’t think that Chelski will field a strong team, as they’ve only named 19 players over 21 for there squad this season because they’ve only got 4 homegrown players in the squad…. plus they’ll be playing CL football the week before too, so I don’t think we’ll have such a hard game as against Manc Usa in the 1st game of the season!!! saying that, if CH decided that cup games are not important this season, only PL survival, then it’ll be our young lads against there’s for this round & they’ll have the home advantage!!!

Why do we always seem to draw chelski in one of the cups…agree with Mactoon above a pity we dont get a chance to use younger players in this game…if we do it could dent there confidence a bit if on the wrong side of a thrashing

I think it would be good to take a stab at the Carling Cup this year. Realistically, it’s our only chance of getting into Europe as top six is out of our reach. We should field our strongest possible team and really go for it. With a bit of luck, Chelsea won’t be that bothered and will field an inexperienced team.

Barca Mag – They can’t field that too an inexperienced team as apparently, this rule regarding a 25 man squad is only for PL games, not CL, Europe or Cup games, so they could field players who’ve not been picked for their PL squad & it won’t effect them!!!

chelsea always put a strong team out in cup games they never disrespect their opponents by fielding weak teams anyhow their “fringe” players would probably get into 16 or 17 of the other teams in the league thats why theyve been so successfull in cup competitions nevertheless well have a good go lads they are not invincible.

Dublin mag – Complete tosh fella, Chelski put out a very weak side against the Spurts 2-3 seasons ago in the final because they were more concerned about the CL game they had & the Spurts won it, so don’t talk crap fella…. 🙁

I’d go for a mix of youngsters and couple of starting defenders and midfielders, like Tiote, Smith, Routledge, Perch, Campbell, Vuckic and Ranger defo, Kadar, Ferguson, Inman.
