Newcastle Pursue 20 Year-Old Striker

The Sunday Sun is reporting this morning that Newcastle are back on the trail of Carlisle United’s Gateshead-born striker Gary Madine.

Gary Madine – Newcastle interested in this lad?

Peter Beardsley has watched Madine three times already this season, and was at Brunton Park last weekend to see Carlisle draw 0-0 with Swindon Town.

20 year-old Madine interested Newcastle before he signed on at Carlisle and has played 64 times for Carlisle with 11 goals.

The striker found it a little difficult at Carlisle after he first signed for the club back in 2007, but has come on well in the last year and looks to be in outstanding form this season in particular.

The 6’5″ striker has a number of clubs who are watching him, and if Newcastle wanted to sign him it would not be easy, although being a local lad you would expect him to want to play for Newcastle.

Gary is certainly the type of player Newcastle want to bring to the club, being young, a good player and looking to improve if he comes to Newcastle.

It’s interesting that if he does sign for the club, Newcastle will have two 6’5″ strikers who were both born in Gateshead, with Andy Carroll already Newcastle’s main striker.

Comments welcome.

I’m presuming he’s more target man than out and out striker? Anybody seen him play?

nile ranger is 18 u idiot and only had 10 min sub roles after coming of the bench AND at a high level club. this kid has been playing regularly for 3 years for lower league clubs and still only has 11 goals…..AND hes 3 years older than ranger. u do the maths howay the lads.

I am a Newcastle fan from Carlisle (where i live), and from time to time i go to see them, i also played in the youth team at carlisle with him. He is NOT the type of player we want. For a big lad he has very little strength, doesnt hold the ball great and has an awful running technique which is quite laughable. He is a poor mans Carroll. Made for the lower leagues. I was surprised Carlisle kept him on, very average but has supposedly made a good start to this season. My other problem is his personality, he walks round like a big shit and looks down on most people. His arrogance is awful.

Thanks lloydie780, in that case, I agree that we should leave him where he is!

burnsie, how do you know he’s been playing regularly?

Ranger is 19, and this kid just turned 20 2 weeks ago. You do the math…

Don’t write a player of you’ve never seen, it’s idiotic. In fact, it’s naive, and stinks of superiority…

Madine plays all the time for Carlisle atm. It’s true, League one player at best.

I agree with burnsie, his stats dont look good to me think he should have a lot more goals at a lower level than he has.

Never heard of this guy. But whatever you don’t get him, no point of getting him. We have one of the best talents with Ranger Vuckic and Phil Airey and Aaron Spear.
