Sol Campbell will play his third game for the Newcastle Reserves side tonight when they entertain Chelsea at St. James’ Park.
Sol Campbell – another Reserves run-out tonight
The former England defender has already played 45 minutes against Sunderland and 60 minutes against Liverpool, and will probably get another hour of play tonight, to further sharpen his match fitness.
That says that Sol will not start at Everton on Saturday, but with the excellent form shown by both Coloccini and Williamson, that was not expected and we have to think the 6’2″ defender will now make his Newcastle debut at Stamford Bridge next Wednesday night, in the 3rd round of the Carling Cup.
Tamas Kadar, Nile Ranger and goalkeeper Tim Krul are all set to get games tonight, and with Joan Edmunsson also back from international duty with the Faroe Islands, he is also expected to get a start tonight against the Pensioners.
There is no admission charge and Reserve team coach Peter Beardsley is hoping there will be a good turn-out to cheer on the young Newcastle side.
The game kicks off 5 minutes later than usual at 7:05 pm, as it is being recorded by Chelsea TV.
Peter Beardsley has selected the following squad for the game:
Tim Krul, Ole Soderberg, Paul Dummett, Stevie Folan, Ben Tozer, Sol Campbell, Jeff Henderson, Tamas Kadar, Matthew Grieve, Ryan Donaldson, Joan Edmundsson, Greg McDermott, Shane Ferguson, Patrick McLaughlin, Conor Newton, Haris Vuckic, Sammy Ameobi, Phil Airey, Nile Ranger, Fabio Zamblera.
