Chris Hughton has indeed given two of the Newcastle new boys Cheick Tiote and Ben Arfa their first starts this afternoon at Goodison Park, with Cheick Tiote, the Ivory Coast International, making his debut.
Alan Smith and Jonas Gutierrez are relegated to the bench and indeed the side is the one we hoped Chris would pick in our Match Preview – so obviously he’s consulted the Newcastle United Blog before announcing his team. 😀
But seriously, we think it’s a good move by Hughton with both Gutierrez and Smith not having good games last week, and Smith responsible for giving away the penalty that put Newcastle on the back foot, just before half time.
We have to think that both newcomers were also impressive in training this week, with Tiote coming straight into the starting eleven for this important game at Goodison this afternoon.
Everton manager David Moyes has made one change from the side that drew 3-3 with Manchester United. Tim Cahill misses out with a knee injury, and is replaced up front by former Newcastle target, Jermaine Beckford.
Howay The Lads!!

Everton: Howard, Hibbert, Baines, Heitinga, Jagielka, Arteta, Distin, Beckford, Pienaar, Osman, Fellaini.

Newcastle United: Harper; Perch, Coloccini Williamson, Enrique; Routledge, Tiote, Barton, Ben Arfa; Nolan; Carroll.

Comment #67Regardless of the final outcome, our performance so far proves Hughton made the right decision dropping Smith. We’re looking so much more comfortable in possession with Tiote in midfield instead of him.
Ben Arfa is obviously a gifted player but we need him to get involved a bit more. Everton are great grafters – if we dont convert this dominance into a goal, they’ll make us pay

Comment #72Really impressed with Tiote. He always wants the ball, and is also willing to get forward. Miles better than Smith!
