Hughton Denies Move For Shay Given

We reported the news in some today’s newspapers that Newcastle would move to get Shay Given on loan at Newcastle to cover for the injured Steve Harper.

Tim Krul – this lad deserves his chance

But we wondered too where that left young Tim Krul, who has worked hard for his opportunity on Tyneside.  And we think it’s good news today that Chris has come out and completely denied the story.

But in talks with the Evening Chronicle this morning, Chris has said that no move will be made to bring Shay back to Tyneside.

And on the fitness of Steve Harper, this is what Chris told the Evening Chronicle today:

“Steve is still being assessed. It’s shoulder ligament damage, but we won’t know until tomorrow.”

“But he will be out for more than just weeks. We will have to wait and see.”

With Steve Harper likely to be out for a few months, and former goalkeeper Shay Given on the bench at the Eastlands club, it was an obvious story to come out – whether it was true or not.

And Chris will be making some changes to the side that takes on Chelsea at Stamford Bridge on Wednesday night, in the 3rd round of the Carling Cup.

Chris continued:

“We will use the squad and there will be significant changes.” “I don’t mind the supporters who are travelling down knowing that.”

“You have to look at the members of the squad who didn’t play at Everton.” “We have a lot of options and there will be changes to the team.”

We have to think that Alan Smith, Sol Campbell, Jonas Gutierrez, Ryan Taylor Shola Ameobi and Peter Lovenkrands could all get starts at Stamford Bridge, and that would be at least 6 changes to the side that started the game at Goodison Park and got the great 1-0 win.

But Chris has to use the squad in these game, if only to give the fringe players some playing time – that’s the way of football these days.

And those players mentioned are hardly poor players either.

Hopefully this will kill the arguments on the earlier thread a bit. Some right handbags floating about there!

I do feel If we fielded our best team against Chelsea’s “reserves” we could get something but I think the priority will be to get 3 points at home against Stoke on Sunday. Hopefully Lovenkrands can nick a goal or two if he starts!

I’ll watch it online, like every other match I can’t get without paying Murdoch £42 of my hard earned wedge every month. Rip off.

Krul for number one!!! Bout time. Hope Harps get s better soon mind. We’re pretty lucky with the quality we have in the GK area.

Agreed, would much rather see Krul given a chance. Whats the point in buying/developing all these young players if they never get a chance in the first team? If Forster were here I’d give him a try, think he is our next long term number 1, rate him more highly than Krul.

Krul has earned his shot, the outings he has had in the UEFA, FA and League cups he has shown his quality. FFS within 2 minutes of coming on on Saturday he had made 2 class saves.

Shay Given left Newcastle when we really needed him . We do not to see him back and rather give tim krul a chance to shine and I am sure he will.
