Ben Arfa Could Be A Steal For Newcastle At £5.5M

Kevin Nolan was delighted with the performance of 23 year-old  Hatem Ben Arfa on Saturday, and he scored his first goal for Newcastle – a wonder goal to be sure.

The mercurial Ben Arfa on Saturday – what a player this boy is!

Nolan talked about Newcastle’s new and exciting creative player yesterday:

“It just shows what he’s got. He’s a top, top player.” “He’s showed it in training but he was great in his first Premier League game.”  “I’m sure there’s more to come.”

“He reminds you a bit of Kinkladze because he doesn’t touch the ball with his right at all.”“He’s a good lad and he’s trying to learn English.”

“We’ve got a good group and a tough game next week against Stoke, so there is no resting on our laurels.” “We have to prove we can do it week-in, week-out.”

Ben Arfa has so far won 5 Ligue 1 Championships in his career, four with Lyon and one last year with Marseilles – so he is already used to winning things in football. Yes, we know – so what’s he doing at Newcastle comes immediately to mind, whether we want it to or not. 😀

And when Ben Arfa moved from Lyon to Marseilles in 2008, he cost €11M (about £9.3M) with Manchester United, Liverpool, Everton, Real Madrid and AC Milan said to be interested in the player.

The fact that Newcastle can sign him for around £5.5M after 25 appearances, is because of his poor disciplinary record, and at both Lyon and Marseilles he clashed with players in training, and of course at Marseilles he also clashed with Didier Deschamps, the manager.

But that could become a great deal for Newcastle United, if indeed Chris Hughton can control the lad, and turn him into a model professional.

If he can do that and Ben Arfa keeps producing the form he’s already shown in his first two games, this lad could be one of Newcastle’s best ever signings, and he has already set alight the appreciative Newcastle fans.

Comments welcome.

I dunno mate, Barton was immense on Saturday. Agreed, Tiote was fantastic, as was Ben Arfa and just about every player on the pitch, including perch (despite very nicely timed fifth booking).

I honestly can’t fault a single performance from Saturday’s game, from the starting XI or the subs.

Gentlemen, we have us a team here.

i hope he has long term intentions of staying at the club. rather than this being just a stop gap. we can build a team around him.

Also i do not think he will cost 5.5 million. the fee that was agreed was raised for us to get him on loan. in fact i read reports that it could be as high as 8 million.

Davies, I agree, Barton was immense on Saturday. But don’t you think it may of been down to Tiote and his style of play?

thats the first time i have read £8M. we will have paid a loan fee and agreed a signing fee so cant see how that would raise the signing fee. the loan fee will be like a deposit, it will come off the agreed valuation for signing him, but if we don’t sign him then we loose the depsoit imo.

Some conflicting reports some say we paid £2 mill up front with another £5 mill to make it permanaent on 25 appearances

Let’s not get carried away but we may just have a team good enough to stay up (hopefully Blackpool was a blip) but we MUST beat Stoke on Sunday. I still think we need another stricker to take the load off Carrol

Am I the only one who will be disappointed if Chris fields a reserve side against Chelsea’s second string and we get dumped out of a competition we could have had a chance of winning?
I realise its ‘only’ the Carling cup if you are in Europe and have a heap of extra midweek games to play. But what is our excuse for turning up a chance to bring home a pot – any pot? I don’t know what side he’ll firels, but all the talk is of Soderbergh, Campbell, Kadar etc.
Are we turned pragmatists this season?

Yeah Sav, let’s side the first team for a piece of silverware, which is far more important than staying up, and hope that none of them are injured for our game on Sunday… ?

Ben Arfa = Georgi Kinkladze?! I love it! Any time there is a “Kinky” reference, its time to think of other Georgian greats – like Temuri!

Sorry about that. Alright: I like that we are arguing who had a better game between Barton and Ti-o-tay (thanks again Salz). Much better than what rubbish bench player is most deserving of lethal injection.

As for tomorrow, lets see Kadar, Campbell, Ranger, Shola et al out there and show us what they can prove. I hate to see our second keeper go down in this as it’s only SEPTEMBER so if CH wants to trot out ole Ole, I say “Välkommen” to the senior squad!

@photocox:- Who could forget the Georgian General Ketsbaia, he won the hearts of the fans with his all out passionate displays. Remember him in particular kicking the bejesus out of one of the hoarding boards after scoring at St James ha ha.
