All The Pressure Is On Chelsea – Not Us

Chris Hughton is reminding his players that the pressure is off them for tonight’s game at Chelsea, and they should go out and enjoy it at Stamford Bridge.

Carlo Ancelotti – this way please

Chris talked to the Evening Chronicle today from London, as the lads are already in the Capital preparing for the game:

“The pressure is off us going there.”   “I don’t think you can afford to worry too much about it.”   “If that’s the case you may as well not turn up at all.” “It’s a game of football and irrespective of what the result will be, we’ll still get something from the game.”

“Whether it’s players getting momentum or a valuable 90 minutes under their belt but whatever the outcome is we’ll get something from the game, it could be good personal performances or anything, we’ll take something from it.”

“It’s away from the league campaign and it’s always nice to go there on the back of beating Everton.” I will make significant changes.”  “But we’re in a better place with the squad then we were a few weeks ago.”

Hughton is right on the money to urge his players to enjoy the game tonight, because after all it’s not every day you get to play one of the best club sides in the world – which is what Chelsea are right now.

Newcastle really have nothing to lose, other than to do the very best they can tonight, and take it as a learning curve as the team continues to improve throughout this season, and they can all learn a lot from the game tonight, that’s for sure.

The former Ireland international right-back continued:

“For us to get anything from the game would be a massive bonus.” “If that’s the case it’s one for us to go out and enjoy.” “We have to get what we can from the game, we have a nice momentum from Saturday from the game.”

“It would be nice to maintain some of the feel from Saturday but I know what the expectations are.” “The expectations are to put in a spirited performance and you never know what you can get.”

We’d love to see the Newcastle team give a really good account of themselves tonight, and then we will be nicely positioned to get all 3 points at home against Stoke City on Sunday afternoon, in a game that will be televised live around the world.

Howay The Lads!!
