Celtic manager Neil Lennon may be looking for a new goalkeeper in January.
Fraser Forster – will Newcastle recall him in January – unlikely
Fraser Forster, who was outstanding at Norwich, has apparently started to look for a new Celtic goalkeeper – because he believes Newcastle might take Fraser Forster back in January.
The Hexham-born 6’7″ goalkeeper is on a season-long loan at the Glasgow club, and has conceded just a single goal in his first three appearances for Celtic, and apparently, if it turns out that Steve Harper is badly injured Newcastle could recall Fraser in January.
Neil Lennon talked about his goalkeeper situation yesterday:
“I’m very happy with the three goalkeepers we have ” “They’re pushing each other for a first-team place.”
“Fraser has done very well since coming in but we’ll have to see how that situation develops now Steve Harper’s got a bad injury.” “He’s on loan from Newcastle and we’ll have to look at that in January.”
“If he is called back by Newcastle there might not be much we can do about it and we might have to look elsewhere.”
It seems that Celtic are more than interested in taking Shay Given on loan to Celtic, but if Steve Harper is not too badly injured, there would be no reason for Newcastle to recall Fraser, and it’s all rather premature to talk about things until we know the full extent of Steve’s injury
Shay of course was at Celtic when he was a youngster – so in some ways it would be a return for the goalkeeper, and Neil was asked if it was possible the former Newcastle keeper could arrive on Clydeside:
“I don’t know,” “I would have to speak to Peter about that,” “I think we’ll be in a position of strength.”
Peter is the Celtic chief executive officer, Peter Lawwell.
We have to hope that Steve Harper is not too badly injured, and he was seen by another specialist yesterday, and we expect some new news about the injury very soon.
