Dutchman Patrick van Aanholt has backed his good friend Tim Krul to become both the Newcastle number one goalkeeper and also number one for the Netherlands.
Patrick van Aanholt - backs good friend
The Chelsea defender of course is a big favorite on Tyneside, after spending seven games at Newcastle on loan last season, when he deputized so well for the injured Jose Enrique, and he looked a great player in the making at only 19 years old.
And there’s nothing Newcastle fans like better than a good player – especially when they play for Newcastle.
Van Aanholt turned 20 last month, and talked about his good pal Tim Krul to the Evening Chronicle today:
“Tim is a good friend of mine but I think he can be a worthy number 1 in the future for both Newcastle and the Dutch national side.”
“He’s got a lot of quality but he’s still quite young like me and has to build up his experience.”
“He is also very highly thought of in Holland so it will be interesting to see how his career progresses from here on in.”
Van Aanholt may yet become a Newcastle player in the future, since he was so impressive on Tyneside, but it all depends on how he fares at Chelsea in the next season or two.
And the lad has fond memories of his time at Newcastle, as he continued:
“I enjoyed my time at Newcastle and it was a very good experience for me to be involved at such a big club.”
“The fans up there were fantastic to me.”“And I was glad to help keep them at the top of the table in the Championship while I was there.”
This will be Patrick’s third appearance for the Chelsea first team, and as well as 7 appearances for Newcastle he also played 20 times for Coventry at the start of last season.
He’s a smashing player – there’s no doubt about that.
