Hughton Reverts Back To Side That Beat Everton for Stoke Clash

Newcastle manager Chris Hughton has made 9 changes from the Newcastle United side which beat Chelsea 4-3 in th Carling Cup at Stamford Bridge in midweek.

Only goalkeeper Tim Krul and defender Fabricio Coloccini keep their places from the side that started at Chelsea and  23 year-old Hatem Ben Arfa returns to the side which looks like it will again play in a 4-512 formation against Stoke City this afternoon.

We thought  a couple of the players who got a chance at Chelsea would retain their places because of their excellent performances, but basically Chris is starting the same side that won at Everton with the injured Steve Harper replaced by Tim Krul.

So there are no starts for Shola Ameobi, Jonas Gutierrez or Sol Campbell this afternoon, although Sol Campbell is not on the bench this afternoon.

The Newcastle subs are Soderberg, Lovenkrands, Ryan Taylor, Smith, Gutierrez, Ameobi and Ranger, and you have to think that Chris is looking at attacking the Stoke side this afternoon, with Ryan Taylor the only defender named apart from back-up goalkeeper Ole Soderberg.

Howay The Lads!!

Newcastle United: Krul; Perch, Williamson, Coloccini, Enrique; Routledge, Tiote, Barton (c), Ben Arfa; Nolan, Carroll
Subs: Soderberg, Lovenkrands, Ryan Taylor, Smith, Gutierrez, Ameobi, Ranger.
Stoke City: Sorensen; Wilkinson, Shawcross (c), Huth, Collins; Whitehead, Diao, Whelan, Etherington; Walters, Jones.
Subs: Begovic, Higginbotham, Gudjohnsen, Fuller, Wilson, Delap, Faye.

Am so looking forward to this game, need 3 home point to take us to 5th, HTL!

Want Benny boy on from the start no pissing around like the Chelsea game where we fritter away a lead either, want 3-0 and shut down the game, Krull needs clean sheet after mid week game to gain confidence if Harps is going to be out for 3 months.

Has anyone got a stream for this or SS1?

See us winning 1-0, as long as we can stop Delap’s throw ins, we should be OK.

I thought Perch has received 5 yellow cards … or was one of them in the CCup? Still not a good start for the young lad, needs a nudge from CH to keep on right side otherwise a ban is imminent

Looks like we are in for another Wolves game…Stoke are clearly out to be physical and play “football” …Pulis pulled a page from the Mick McCarthy manual of tactical coaching….

Ben Arfa i’d watch my legs today if i were you…hope no player of ours gets his leg broken today…

@pearceet – Perch is much better defending than Raylor…We don’t need Perch going forward but we do need him to defend.

Raylor got skinned all game against Chelsea, he was lucky to stay on in fact.

I feel much more ate ease with Perch at RB.

Raylor is quite a poor defender and no pace what so ever he`s a RM not a defender.

he`s scored 2 crackers lets not get carried away though Hoots know`s exactly what he`s doing

@ stk85 – stoke have big lads in defence, trouble is we’re trying to cross it in and they’re winning it every time, going to have to score from shots today I think, not from crosses as we don’t have the height
