Even though Chris Hughton has already denied them – there are persistent rumors that indeed Newcastle are planning to bring Shay Given back to Tyneside on an emergency loan deal until Steve Harper can return early next year.
Shay Given – back to Newcastle?
Steve Harper has been ruled out following the injury he picked up in Newcastle’s 1-0 away victory against Everton last Saturday.
22-year-old Dutchman Tim Krul, who has waited a long time for his chance, is Newcastle’s goalkeeper now, but reports coming out of Ireland suggest that Chris Hughton is hoping the Premier League will grant Newcastle special dispensation to bring in an emergency loan signing.
The Newcastle club will use Manchester City’s loan signing of Marton Fulop late last season, for the then injured Shay Given, as the precedent.
But the news is their plea may be turned down because it is being reported that Newcastle have a recall clause in the loan of their goalkeeper Fraser Forster to Glasgow Celtic, although Hughton has said that is true – but can only be exercised at the turn of the year.
If that is true then the PL will probably grant the emergency loan deal – if indeed this news has any truth in it at all.
We find it hard to believe that Newcastle would bring Shay back to Newcastle and have Tim Krul then sit on the bench, but it could be they are working on a possible loan deal – but only if Tim Krul gets injured.
Krul played today in Newcastle’s 2-1 loss against Stoke at home, and Newcastle had defensive problems – but they were not in the goalkeeping department.

Comment #3What are you saying Ed.
If you are implying Krul is a better keeper than Given, get real.
You guys are so petty you take everything personally, such as a player leaving the side, what about the twelve years that the guy served this club well.
Listen it would be good business if he were to return, as Krul is no where near the finished product and we may very well have to look elsewhere.
It`s just business, football business !

Comment #4chuck, did you see Given in the F.A. Cup? He’s a shadow of himself. Krul would have kept a clean sheet, Given let in 2.
Also, if Krul isn’t gonna get his experience now, when is he?
Krul could easily be better than Given, but he needs games, and he needs them now.
No doubt you’ll want Vuckic in the starting line-up next week though…

Just opinions, but I think you would find that few would agree with your assessment of Krul being a better goalie than Shay and by the way Goalies develop later and play longer than outfielders, so he has plenty of time, whereas this club has one season to survive in the division

Comment #6As for Vuckic, have`nt actually seen him play, but by all accounts he is expected to have a future at the club.
Hope that`s the case.

Comment #7Right here comes my rant, clearly not many people on this blog actually go to that match. I did. Look Stoke are a dog of a team a nothing. It must be so frustrating being a stoke fan. They are never gonna win a cup or finish in europe. However they’re probably never gonna be relegated. What you have is an awful lot of athletes over 6ft fact. They will throw ,kick, cheat free kicks into the box. They will win more headers than they’ll lose.
Unfotunatley we played well today and lost. I have been going to games for an awful lot of my 31 years on this earth and i can say that we are in danger of haveing a half decent team. Tiote is actually a monster and as soon as he went off the boil so did Newcastle.
The penalty was thourghly deserved but so was their goal. They had threatened with high balls, crosses free kicks and throw ins for about 15 mins ,hit the woodwork twice. We deserved to win the game 2-1 i’d say but own goals and lack of luck can’t be accounted for. A bad result yes but a bad performance no. Playing like that against alot of teams we would have steam rolled them. HWTL.

Comment #8Shay Given is a quality goalkeeper but he turned us down and left us. So why would we want him back? He turned his back to us. Tim Krul is a future top goalkeeper.

Comment #9spot on mac, glad to see someone actually has sense on here!
IMO – no need for given, end of the day he left us when we needed him most. fair enough he was too good for us but thats that. nothing wrong with krul, he along with FF is the future and we need to give him a chance to show he can do it for us.
Thought Tiote was mint today for the most part and as soon as he left we lost the physical battle and missed his presence. agree 110% with mac about stoke and todays game, just one of those days. we are still doing alot better than i expected us to be doin at this point!

i dont know what you mean by “we should have won the match, and other teams we would have steamrolled” facts are we didnt create any chances at all – we play it around pretty well, but we dont have any pace in our passing – we continually played balls in their 6 yard box only for it to come straight back out again…..
we seriously lacking in opening up defences especially on the right hand side as there is no overlapping from Perch – so routledge keeps cutting inside….i though we were very poor today in the final third of the pitch – our descission making was inept and we need someone to run the channels from big andys flick ons…..Hughton made a mistake taking Ben arfa off even though he wasnt good – but against these teams you need creative flair to unlock those compact and narrow defences…
loosing to blackpool and stoke, drawing with wolves….i reckon we now see realistic that we are in a dog fight…..still surviving would be a success…..but we would need to take points from these fixtures as we all know taking points from the bigger teams will soon fade away..

Comment #11Shearmanina, we are in a dog fight. But if you watched the game we were the better team and did deseve to win. Yes i agree Ben and Tioute should never have come off. We are playing good football,an awful lot better than i expected us to be playing.
Yes we lost points against Blackpool,Stoke and Wolves. The last 2 are decent Prem teams and the likes of LiverpoolFulham and the likes will struggle against them. We should have got points today but who on here expected us to get anything against Villa and Everton?

How the hell is Krul ever going to be the finished article if he keeps getting dropped after not doing anything much wrong. He’s nearly 23, not a kid any more.

Comment #13For all the good CH has done and he’s done a lot, I think his critical faults like many before him are no plan B and some very poor sub decisions.
You’ve got to have a variation on just banging high hopeful balls up to Carroll especially against Stoke who are not going to be easily beaten in the air. We should have tried to play through them on the deck, but we never did. Every time it goes wide we just put endless hopeful high crosses in. We’re getting Crouch syndrome !!
Also CH has to grow some cojones and drop Nolan. Nolan was great in the CC, but creates nothing now and moves break down due to his lack of pace. the times he does get in the box, he has been guilty of missing several chances, ie against Wolves etc.
Yesterday Campbell should have played in the middle and Colo dropped out to right back.
Ranger has to come in as an extra goal threat too. I think his hold up play and ability to make runs behind defences is far better than Carrolls.
Not that I woud drop carroll.

Comment #17from another thread on TOTT. I’m sure it’s what a lot of people are thinking though
=================
The problem is that Hughton made Nolan captain and so wont sub him. If we had brought Jonas on for Nolan and moved HBA behind Carrol we would have finished Stoke off. I was completely puzzled by the decision to take off Tiote – bizarre!

Comment #18Krul should be the GK.
even if it will cost us a some. He should get his chance and expirience(!!!). Who needs Given, he is not our GK anymore. a goalkeeper should be the soul of the team because he is the last in place to stop the ball from going in.
Krul is like that 100%.

Surely 35 points will be enough to survive and we already have 7!!
However, if CH uses the squad properly it shouldn’t be a problem getting 50 considering the players we have!!
