Last week Newcastle pulled off another coup when they signed 18 year-old wonder kid Yven Moyo from French club Souchaux.
Yven Moyo – signed for Newcastle
And it’s now official as Newcastle manager Chris Hughton has hailed the signing of Yven Moyo , apparently completed last week, as one for the future.
As we had reported yesterday the former Sochaux man was on the bench for the Reserve game with Wolves on Monday night, but nobody has mentioned he was even at the club.
The 18 year old was heavily linked with Manchester United 18 months ago and again in the summer, but hey – he suddenly arrive on Tyneside – so we have to believe our scouts are getting the job done. And by the way Yven is 18 and not 19 as reported in the Journal this morning – he was born on 15th March, 1992.
And it appears that the France Under 18 international arrived at St James’ Park on a free transfer after rejecting Souchaux’s offer of a new contract.
This is what Chris said about the lad today:
“He’s very much one for the future. He’s a lad who came on trial and showed enough to earn himself a contract,” “It will benefit him working with our development group and it is something that we will continue to do.”
“We are looking at France as a very good market to pick up players – as many other clubs are – but it is not just there.” “We are casting our net much wider but it is all positive for the future of the club.”
This is really good news because not only does the Newcastle seem to be after the top youngsters available, but we are also able to sign them on at Newcastle.
That’s got to auger well for the future of the club, and it seems the club’s youth policy is now in full swing, which is great.
Now the first team just has to start winning a few games. 😀
