Newcastle manager Hughton has yet to make a decision on whether Danny Guthrie is ready to make his return against Wigan on Saturday.
Danny Guthrie – uncertain whether he’ll make bench on Saturday
Danny is returning from his knee injury, and he was not included in the Reserve team squad that will meet Blackpool at Bloomfield Road this afternoon.
Danny injured his knee in pre-season and he is only now returning from the injury, and has yet to play for the first team this season.
With the great Cheick Tiote added to Newcastle’s central midfield in the summer, it will be even harder for Danny to get a start at Newcastle this season.
But on the other hand, the 23 year-old did show some of his best form at Newcastle in the latter half of last season, and is at his best when he plays in the middle of the park.
Indeed the last time Danny played in the first team was the last game of the season at QPR in early May when the lads won 1-0.
That was also Danny Simpson’s last game for Newcastle, and the Salford-born player is retuning from his ankle injury, and was included in the Reserve team squad for the game at Bloomfield Road, so we don’t expect Simpson to be included in the squad on Saturday.
Hughton commented on the two players today:
“With both of them, we have to wait and they are decisions we have to make.” “They have only trained for two weeks so we’ll see.”
As usual Chris gives nothing away regarding his team choice before any game, but we have a sneaking suspicion Guthrie will be on the bench on Saturday, in a game we should win.
