Danny Simpson as expected is included in thje Newcastle’s Reserve team which will play Blackpool at Bloomfield Road this afternoon – a 3:00 pm KO.
Danny Simpson – will play for Reserves this afternoon
But Danny Guthrie, who played the whole game last Tuesday for the Reserrves is not included in the squad, and it could be we will see Guthrie on the bench against Wigan on Saturday.
Simpson played 75 minutes on his return from an ankle injury in that same game, and Chris Hughton had earlier this week said that Guthrie was ahead of Simpson in his rehabilitation, so perhaps it’s not surprising Guthrie is not included in the squad.
Nile Ranger is included however, and will play, to keep him match fit for the game against Arsenal in the Carling Cup in a couple weeks time at St. James’ Park.
James Tavernier, Shane Ferguson and Ryan Donaldson are also expected to play tonight.
Reserve team manager Peter Beardsley said today:
“I’m looking forward to it and so are the lads. For the younger lads in particular, it will be great for them to play at Bloomfield Road.”
“Danny Simpson and Nile Ranger are in the squad and the rest of the group is made up of youngsters, but I’m very happy with what I’ve got and it should be a good game.”
We don’t know of a more enthusiastic guy these days than Peter, and it must be great for the youngsters to play for one of the former Newcastle greats, who has a wealth of experience in football.
The squad is as follows:
Ole Soderberg, Jak Alnwick, Danny Simpson, Paul Dummett, Stevie Folan, Matthew Grieve, James Tavernier, Shane Ferguson, Ryan Donaldson, Greg McDermott, Patrick McLaughlin, Conor Newton, Michael Richardson, Sammy Ameobi, Phil Airey, Nile Ranger.
