Newcastle Interested In Belgium Winger?

There is news in the Daily Mail that Newcastle are interested in Belgium winger Jonathan Legear.

Jonathan Legear – are Newcastle interested in this player ?

The 23 year-old is currently at Anderlecht, and has been at the Belgium club since 2003, when he left his home-town club Standard Leige, and the player has over 100 appearances and 14 goals in his career so far.

Jonathan can play on the right wing or up front as an out and out striker, so it seems he fits the type of player Newcastle may be looking to sign in January or in the summer.

The news is that Newcastle have had the player watched regularly, including when he played last week for Belgium in their exciting 4-4 draw with Austria, and he was said to be in excellent form in that game.

Jonathan has been compared to Christian Wilhelmsson, the former Swedish International, because of his fair hair and tremendous speed down the wing, and certainly Newcastle need more speed in their side.

But he has just extended his contract through the summer of 2014 with the Brussels club, and the likely fee quoted is  around £3.5M, but it’s not clear that Newcastle have that sort of money to spend, at least in January.

The report also suggests that Newcastle are interested in Blackpool goalkeeper Matt Gilks, who’s certainly been in fine form this season, but we find it a little hard to believe that Newcastle are interested in Matt, when the club already have Steve Harper, Tim Krul and Fraser Forster on the books on Tyneside.

Matt’s contract runs out next summer, and he could become available as a free agent at that time.

I’d take him anyday. You want to know why? I just don’t want Wayne Routledge to start at that right wing spot. He is terrible! Legear is a creative player but don’t know if he will ever do anything in the premier league. Or don’t get a right winger and let our own brilliant Lua Lua come and play at that right wing spot! Lua Lua deserves it

Just a forum of Chilean fans and one of them says Rumour alert that Newcastle are in for Matias Fernandez. I’d be so SO so SO so HaPPy if we get this kid in January he is so creative and has one of the best free kicks. One of the best passers and he can operate on either wing or in the middle. Take him anyday.

can anyone tell me where Brad Inman has been, i’m aussie and have been watching this lad closely, but haven’t heard anythin in the past month of two. Is he injured or just out of favour?? If anyone knows anything would be awesome thanks.

Auz, I believe Inman’s been out since mid-September with an ankle injury. He would be starting for the reserves if he was healthy, and Inman was not listed even as a sub for their 4-1 win yesterday against Bolton reserves. That’s all I can tell you.

Christian Wilhelmsson are actually still an swedish international. He was in the latest squad that lost 2-0 against Holland a week agoe, but he was an unused sub.

    Just for Your information.. 🙂

Actually, what CT said was an insult to Andrex. I wouldn’t wipe my arse withthe mail and Andrex is a better read.

Yes indeed, the daily arse-wipe is hardly a beacon of truth. I heard they ran a story alongside this one that UFO’s have been spotted hovering over St. James’s Park, and that Chris Hughton is actually a woman in a man costume. If there is any shred of truth in this story then, well, he’s a decent player, obvious question marks over whether or not he can make the step up to PL standard football. Routledge is not having a great season so far by any means but by this time next season he could be a decent PL standard pplayer, we also have R Taylor and Kazenga (when he returns) who can play that position. If we are in the market for new players I think we need to look at the left-back position. If Enrique gets injured or suspended then we have a big problem there. Also a centre back or a striker would not go amiss. If we do sign Legear can we make sure his contract stipulates that he gets a hair cut… immidiately!

After 8 games and pre-season, one would think WR & Perch would have a few things worked out so they would be better in defense and coordinated on attack. I’m not seeing that they have. Continuing these two must mean that any other pairing is worse? We know Perch is better than RTaylor, so he stays on till someone else is healthy and better. Then it comes to whether the new defender works with WR or can cover for another wing who is less capable defensively.

In any case, I’d sure like to see the RB confine himself to playing behind the RW unless the RW can provide good cover.

wasnt everyone suggesting the daily mail to be the devil the other day. pretty sure CH mentioned no players coming in aswell. but i suppose we can be hopeful, but then again like first mentioned, its the daily mail.
