Magpies Interested In Chilean International – We Don’t Think So

Even though Chris Hughton has said he is not in the market for any players this January, that hasn’t stopped the stories about who Newcastle may be interested in.

Matias Fernenadez – a player who is not coming to Newcastle

There was a story yesterday that we were interested in Belgium winger Jonathan Legear, who would cost around £3.5M.

There are reports also that Newcastle may be interested in Sporting Lisbon play-maker Matias Fernandez.

The player’s agent Alejandro Santiesteban has said he is yet to hear from representatives of the Newcastle United club about the 24-year-old Chile international:

“I’m not aware of the reported interest in Matias from Newcastle, nobody has got in touch with me so I think it must be a rumor.”

“If a team is really interested in a player and has to pay a transfer fee, then they have to get in touch with me and the club. That hasn’t happened.”

And we think that  Alejandro Santiesteban can stop holding his breath,  because Newcastle will not be in touch with him about the Buenos Aires, Argentinian born player.

The 39 times capped Chilean International attacking midfielder is contracted to Sporting Lisbon until 2014,  and is apparently rated at between £14M and £20M, and Newcastle will not pay that fee for just one player – no way at all.

We’re only paying around £7M in total if we get Ben Arfa from Marseilles, who is also a highly rated play-maker.

So that’s the end of this particular rumor.

Class player but tbh right now i dont think it would be fair to rate him between 14 – 20 mill. Around 5-7 mill like Ben Arfa i think right about now.

Unfortunately we wont sign him because there is really no place once ben arfa gets back, unless mike ahsley knows something we dont, like Gutierrez leaving or something negative regarding the ben arfa loan

Personally, i think he is a great player, but i would not sign him. Not for 20m

Petey – Why would Jonas have to leave to sign another winger? We’ve got two at the minute, so what happens when one gets injured?
If we could put in a 7 million offer for him and see what happens I would be happy with that… Newcastle need dangerous players right now!

Imagine Ben Arfa and Matias Fernandez playin on the same team… yes please!

Watched a little of him on tube at #3 and it looks like he has only learnt to stand on his left leg as yet.

Yes tricky but looks to be very one footed

Wouldn’t be the first brilliant Chilean player we’ve
had. Think of the legendary George Robledo, and his brother Ted in the 50’s.

GM @ 8 – no room on your list for the mighty Clarence Acuna then?

I would love Chris Hughton to sign Matias Fernandez. He is so creative has a rocket free kick in him and is very talented attacking player. Would take him anyday for the right price

I would love to hire matias fernandez is a great player, in every way, I’ve heard in Mexico, something Routledge, specifically that could leave the team in January as ryan taylor, there’s certainly not (I hope nothing), also matias fernandez (matigol), I would love to see Bojan Krkic on loan, and sharing with carroll attack.
