New Boy Michael Richardson Catching The Eye With Reserves

Reserve Team Coach Peter Beardsley has sang the praises of teenage midfielder Michael Richardson today, after the local lad again came on as a sub and inspired the Reserves to a 4-1 victory over Bolton yesterday afternoon at Benton.

That’s Michael Richardson with the ginger (red) hair in the middle

Richardson had a trial in the summer and the red-head joined the club in late August, and certainly last week he looked excellent when he came on at Blackpool and inspired a remarkable 3-2 win, including making the winner for Nile Ranger, and helping the lads score 3 goals in the last 20 minutes in that game.

And yesterday he set up Phil Airey’s second goal with a terrific pass from the right, and then almost scored himself..

Peter Beardsley certainly seems impressed as he told Newcastle United TV after the game yesterday:

“I think it’s brilliant for our club that we have a kid who’s a late developer – and I think it gives encouragement to all the youngsters in the North East.”

“Your chance isn’t gone even if you’re 15, 16, 17. There’s still a chance for you.”

Richardson only joined the Newcastle Academy this season,  but if  he keeps putting in these types of displays he’s going to quickly advance at the club.

And it seems Peter just loves the boy as he said:

“He’s got brilliant ability, he loves being around the place and loves what he does, and he’s a pleasure to work with.”

It’s good that we picking up the local talent in the area, as we’ve missed so many future great players in the past.

And Newcastle are now at the top of the Premier Reserve League.

Here are the teams for yesterday’s game, and Danny Simpson put in a good 70 minutes and is ready for the first team game at West Ham on Saturday.

Newcastle Reserves: Ole Soderberg, Danny Simpson, Shane Ferguson, James Tavernier, Paul Dummett, Conor Newton, Patrick McLaughlin, Ryan Donaldson, Joan Edmundsson, Haris Vuckic, Phil Airey.
Subs: Michael Richardson, Jonathan Mitchell, Stevie Folan, Samuel Adjei, Sammy Ameobi.

Bolton Wanderers: Rob Lainton, Ryan Stayte, Adam Blakeman, Reece Bennett, Andy Burns, Sam Sheridan, James Caton, Graeme MacGregor, Tom Eaves, Michael O’Halloran, Topi Obadeyi.
Subs: Joah Vela, Jay Lynch, Sami Odelusi, Andy Kellett, Ben Hampson.

No Ranger, Xisco or Kadar yesterday. Hope they are suited up Saturday, and get some time on the pitch.

If he`s good enough??? Was in a retaurant Mon night that`s popular with players in town, at the next table were 3 Mackem players. One high profile ON LOAN from top 4 club but injured(need any more clues) they obviously enjoying themselves! At the same time S`land playing live on sky v B`burn, it seems they couldn`t care less about the result, why would they? Not his club, won`t sign for them, only their for playing time to gain experience, Knows he`s returning back to his proper club but still getting paid. This to me the danger with loanees, no passion for the club they loaned to!!

TOONarmy, forgot he`d signed cos don`t follow their bull closely, but don`t that make it worse?? Not interested in the result or performance cos hes not playing!! Where`s the team spirit and encouragement for his fellow mates.??

Fair question mate – what about the rumour that he cant play in hte summer?

TBH – hes looking a very good creative fooballer and we should be pleased that 1) we are now capturing them and 2)hes local and wants to play for the toon – go on son!
