What Newcastle fans will be hoping for on Saturday, is as brave and good a performance as the lads have given in their last two away games at Man City and Everton.
Chris Hughton – players should dedicate game to this man on Saturday
A wonderful 1-0 win at Everton was followed by another impressive display at Eastlands, but the lads had no luck at all, and went down 2-1 to the second placed side.
But a display like the last two could be enough to get all 3 points at West Ham on Saturday, as long as the players go into that game with the right attitude and ready to fight to the death (so to speak).
This is what Chris said today:
“What we have shown is that we’re able to go away from home and put in performances, as we did at Manchester City and Everton.” “There mustn’t be any fear.”
“We have character in the side, and yet we also have to be realistic.”“We’re playing in a tougher league. We expected the ups and downs, and the quality we’re up against. We’ll set our stall out to be very positive.”
We know this is easier said than done, and it may also be wishful thinking on our part, but we think the lads owe Chris Hughton a gutsy performance in London on Saturday, and all 3 points would just be fantastic.
It may not be true that Chris was about to be sacked on Saturday, but we hope the news will jolt the players into giving their all for Chris on Saturday, and we know they are capable of playing very well this season, but have been very inconsistent so far.
And Hughton is just delighted with the form, not to mention the fantastic attitude, of Argentine winger Jonas Gutierrez, after Jonas scored a wonderful goal at Man City, and set up both goals in the last 20 minutes against Wigan on Saturday.
Chris continued:
“With Jonas, one thing you’ll always get is a committed performance, but he’s a wide player, and wide players will always go through periods of ups and downs, even in the same game.”
“If you’re somebody that keeps having a go, you’ll always have a chance, and that’s what Jonas does.”
With Sol Campbell out injured it could be that the only change in defense on Saturday will be Danny Simpson coming in for James Perch, as Danny has now had three impressive performances for the Reserves.
And the Reserves had a great 4-1 win over Bolton Wanderers yesterday, and continue at the top of the Premier Reserve League, with 14 points from 7 games and with 16 goals scored and only 6 conceded.
And don’t forget our Reserve side these days is basically the youngsters, and that has to be a good sign for the long term future of the Newcastle club, as the Youth Policy seems to be right on track now.

Comment #13if we’re gonna win it we need width and a 5 man mid field .. guthrie is useless as a winger .. he’s good in the centre though..
Rout – Barton – Tiote – Nolan – Guti
thats a midfield to hold when defending and attack with width ..
this is a massive 6 pointer and will decide Hughtons position at the club I reckon..
I do like Hughton but its a results business and we’re not getting them at home ..

Comment #14Sweendog, you got it just about right. Its all about the shape of the team. Guthrie (although not my favourite) does pass the ball well, BUR+T strays too much from the wide right. He did it loads last year and on saturday did not support Perch, who desperately needs back up as he is garbage. Routledge, along with Spidermag gives us TWO wide options, and if you get the ball in the box, Bigger lad and Nolan can do the rest. (Or Shola for that matter). The answer is supply of crosses.

But Ashley wont pay for a top manager and would not feed their transfer needs, so I dont see what he would gain by sacking Hoots?!

Comment #16By the way, every time Carroll has played against Upson he has made a complete pair of knickers of him. Upson is terrified of Andy: -Fact.
If we get at them we can get 3 points no bother.
Come on Chris, get at them!!
Oh and if Dyer is playing, give th elittle upstart a kick up the hole from me.

Comment #21NUFCrichy, CH as good as FR?? Not sayin gonna happen but we swimming in a bigger pond now, results business no room for sentiment. Can`t have it both ways, Survival is MA n our top priority, if FR or talent like it becomes available and we are struggling then??? Many ways to remunerate managers, Basic sal to get to 40 pnts n survival, so much a pnt after that and like prize money bonus dependant on league posistion!

I never said CH was as good as FR
Sure we are swimming in a bigger pond, but I cant see Ashley forking out big bucks to get a big manager in.
If Hoots leaves, dont be suprised to see someone here of a similar stature to Hoots.

Comment #27One thing that worries me about CH is that he tries to fit the players to a formation he seems to love 4-5-1, not the formation to the players. Guthrie is not a right winger. And he insists on playing Nolan behind Carrollwhereas a 4-4-2 with a midfield of Tiote and Barton/ Nolan rotating is imo better than the 4-5-1.
Also something has been getting at me for a while now, why are all our balls directed at Carroll as the furthest man forward when there is no-one ahead of him. I would play Nolan as the furthest man forward when we are doing a route 1 ball

Comment #28Love him or hate him, Joe would of kept us up. Ok we would now be in the championship, because we would have the same wenkers playing for us last season. But 2008-2009 JFK would have kept us up. sorry for repeating myself.

Comment #29team for sat:
Krul
Simmo colo willo el toro
Rout tiote barton jonas
carroll shola
Perch has to go and i would have played sol instead of wilo but obv not now, for me jonas has been by far our most dangerous player this season. OK his final bal might be lacking sometimes, but off the top of my head he did put the ball in for sholas goal vs chelski and the two vs wigan, hes getting better and his pace and skill most of the time!) is destroying teams. Shola needs a start hes now scored as many as AC in fewer games

Comment #30Dave1961,/Richy Yous not reading my post props@21, MA will not be as lucky again getting Hoots on the cheap and promo at 1st attempt. Relegation again could cost the club in total excess of£100 mill. do you really think he`d let that happen. Sorry to say, no result against W`ham or Mackems , I don`t want to see it but Hoots will be history especially if no assistant by then. CA will then appoint and remunerate on performance, not fat salaried fixed contracts irrespective. Trust me, he`s biz man, makes sense too!
