Andy Carroll has been given the nod today to start today and another surprise is that Chris Hughton also has Shola Ameobi in the starting line-up, for Newcastle at West Ham this afternoon.
For the first time in a long time away from home, Chris Hughton has gone with a 4-4-2 formation, and Kevin Nolan the Newcastle captain also returns in Newcastle’s midfield, after having a rest last week.
Danny Simpson, as expected, will make his first appearance of the season for the Magpies at right-back, and he replaces James Perch as expected, after Danny has finally recovered from his ankle injury.
It could be that Barton or Nolan will play on the right wing today, as neither Routledge nor Danny Guthrie make the starting eleven, but are included on the bench.
Former Newcastle player Kieron Dyer is not included in the squad at all, and the Newcastle bench is strong with Soderberg, Perch, Taylor (R), Guthrie, Routledge, Smith and Lovenkrands. That bench will give Chris many options throughout the game – depending on how things are going.
This is an attacking side that Chris is playing today, no doubt believing that West Ham’s strength is not in defense, and we expect Newcastle to play an attacking game this afternoon.
We have to hope we get all 3 points by 7:30 pm tonight.

This is beautiful! Newcastle 59% pos vs WH 41 pos! 1-2, what a result! I`m gonna keep on drinking tonight! 😉 What a fantastic victory, this shows the character that the team that got relegated two seasons ago didn`t have…

Comment #174Great win, so happy. WH were awful 2nd half but that shouldn’t detract form our performance, we deserved it. WH were the better team for 15/20 minutes but we came back so well after going 1-0 down and WH barely got a sniff after that. We bossed it in MF, played Ameobi and Carroll up front, Nolan recalled and Tiote battling away, and dropped Perch- all things I wanted, and it seemed to work.
I have to say lads, and no offence, but just look back at the early posts on this blog and hang your heads in shame. Too many fans giving up on the team, people slagging off our entire right side, fellow NUFC supporters arguing with each other… come on, we’re Newcastle UNITED. At least the boys on the pitch struck to their task and played well.
And Tiote just looks better and better…
Howay the lads!

Comment #175What a great performance! Tiote is awesome! Barton supreme! Carroll magnificent! Jose the best left back in the league! and Simpson made the defence balanced.
Only problem was Andy Gray’s grudgeing praise; he was embarassing!!
Bring on the Mackems 🙂

Comment #177Impressed again by Enrique.. he’s such a legend.
MOM = Tiote. What ballhandling and control.
Runners up = J.Barton. Worked like hell through the whole game. Good crosses from the right wing. Playing both CM and RM and mastered it.
Cheers to CH for the tactics today. Simpson was our right winger when barton went inside. Clever attacking. Simpson did not play poor but not especially well either today, but he’s back now at least, and can only get better. He has the potential. No clumsy mistakes either.
Lets forget the 1st half where we did not impress anyone. 2nd half was very good. Real control. In the end we showed we were the better side.
