Chris Hughton will surely play some youngsters and fringe players for the game against Arsenal on Wednesday night, in the 4th round of the Carling Cup.
Tamas Kadar – expected to start on Wednesday night
And the players we think could well get a start against The Gunners include Shane Ferguson, Ryan Taylor, Nile Ranger, Haris Vuckic, Tamas Kadar, Peter Lovenkrands, Danny Guthrie and Wayne Routledge.
Hughton told the Evening Chronicle today that he will make some changes to the team for the Arsenal game:
“I’ll definitely make changes – how many, I don’t know.” “It will be an opportunity for a lot of players.” “We’re at home – it’s a nice opportunity for us.”
Hughton will again have some tough decisions to make on Wednesday night, but the top priority this week has to be the game next Sunday afternoon against Sunderland, and getting all three points from that game to register Newcastle’s first back-to-back league wins of the season. Every league point is just so valuable this season.
But it seems Chris Hughton is still getting over the extra special display by the lads on Saturday afternoon, after the side struggled badly in that first 15 minutes:
“I’m struggling to think of anybody who didn’t perform well. The two centre-halves, and in particular Willo, were tested early on, but he came on to a good game. There were so many good performances.”
Well the simple truth of the matter is the lads got the job done on Saturday – big time – and it was the type of game Newcastle fans love to see.
Oh for a couple more results like that one this week. 😀
Comments welcome.

Comment #1Hope to see Kadar start, it seems like he’s disappeared this season.

Comment #2I imagine something like this:
——————————-Krul————————
–RTaylor——–Campbell—–Kadar—-Ferguson
–Routledge——-Smith———Vuckic—-Guthrie
—————–Ranger———Lovenkrands———
Expect Hughton to give ‘sub’ players a go as apposed to youngsters such as RTaylor and Smith. This gives experience aswell as a bit of quality with some of the youngsters. Also he’ll play people out of position such as Guthrie or RTaylor or even Routledge.
As long as Arsenal rest some of their players aswell, expect a good game

Comment #3I’m hoping to see Alan Smith show how much he has learned about playing DM from Tiote.
I’m hoping to see Danny G spread the ball around through midfield.
I’m hoping Xisco & WR get to run on the wings.
I’m hoping Nile Ranger gets a run out at striker.
I’m hoping Shane Ferguson shows he was not a one hit wonder vs. Chelsea.
And I’m hoping this collection of parts can disrupt the well oiled first team machine Wenger has promised to his faithful.

Comment #4I would go with Turkish’s line up for this match. Not really bothered if we lose, still see it as a distraction from the real business, however, a small selfish part of me can’t help but feel hopefull over how close to a pot this competition asctually is, and how much quality oposition is out of it? Still, play the kids, hope for the best, but forgive the worst.

Comment #6Just read the latest from Northumbria’s finest. “Operation Jerrettspass” is the code for the boys in blue for Sunday’s game against the unwashed. Where did they get that name from? Oh dear – on investigation, it looks like we have someone who has experience of monitoring contentious marches since Jerrettspass is a place in N.Ireland, south of Belfast on the way to Newry and Warrenpoint. Northumbia’s finest have brought in an expert in apprentice boys marches! So, I guess that means that all, sorry, both, those young apprentices from Mackemland should be on their best behaviour, otherwise it’s six of the best from the boys in blue and no fizzy pop till tea time. Question – is anyone interested in a sweep on how long it will take Mr Clater-them-all, sorry, Mr Cattermole to get booked? There’s only five seconds to four minutes thirty seconds left in my sweep. As for the game – I have a suspicion we will see Spiderman again – he looked like he had his shooting boots on against the Hammers. Prediction? Straight two nil victory, then a half-dozen in the Old George followed by a hot Ruby Murray – Champion!

Comment #7If United play the full 90 minutes in the style we played for 75 minutes at West Ham we’ll have no problems with most teams.
We must get out of the habit though of taking 15 minutes to “get out of the traps” at the beginning of the game or having to turn up the quality of our play when we are a goal down.
Surely by now our players have realised that when they go for it we can be a match for anyone.
And boy what a difference Cheikh has made!

Comment #8Is CH serious about making a challenge to get into the next round. Why treat the competition with the disrespect that other managers do? What happens if we get into the actual final? Will CH then continue to play reserve and younger players? Will then those who get us to the final (assuming we do) feel hard done by because the strongest team is THEN selected and they sit it out on the bench? I am arguing this case because I believe our club can get to the Carling Cup final this season!!!!

Comment #11I do really think we could go far if we put a strong team out tomorrow as Spurs, Chelsea, liverpool and city are out.
But hopefully a strong core with a few youngsters will be played. The likes of R.Taylor and Guthrie are capable to cause problems.
Love to see Kadar back….hes like a young Colo as hes so calm and just sits back and reads the game.
And Ranger, impresses me with his pace and enuthsiasm every time i see him.

Comment #12Yes – Xisco could do well. Perhaps he needs a run out to get confidence cos he must feel like the invisible ma thse days. Ranger needs to start too.

Comment #17as long as James Perch isn’t in contention that’s all that matters he needs to sit on the bench for at least 7 months to think about how to improve his game. I do think he should play the same team that beat Chelsea, i hope he can find a way of keeping Ryan Taylor in the side so he does’nt consider leaving us!

Comment #21We do have the 3rd/4th youth team from last years youth cup behind Chelsea and Villa so i feel with R.Taylor and others i likie our Cup team at the moment from last game at Chelsea it was a nice blend of subs and youth and our youth is good Ranger and Ferguson are our best and Vuckic hasnt impressed too much but he is still very young .

Comment #24Arsene Wenger has stated he intends to play his strongest team available on Wednesday. Why is CH not intending to do the same? Or is he? To play a weaker team against Arsenal in this cup-tie is bordering on the foolhardy. To run the risk of throwing away this game on the basis of playing younger players or resting others is daft. It is all too easy to hide behind the excuse of concentrating on points in the Premiership. NUFC is either an all out competing team in all competitions or we are a tactical joke. Going by those left in the competition we have a chance of a place in the final – to risk losing against Arsenal is a ploy bordering on treachery. Howay the lads – full team and full steam ahead CH. If we as a club are genuinely interested in going for some silverware then we do our best on Wednesday.
