Newcastle Want Landon Donovan On Loan In January

News today that Newcastle United are ready to challenge Everton for the loan signing of  USA star player Landon Donovan in January.

Landon Donovan – on his way to Newcastle?

Landon is one of the USA’s best players, and certainly shone for Everton last January when he was on loan at Goodison Park, and if Newcastle can get this player, he would add some much needed creativity to the Newcastle attack, which has been lost since the great Ben Arfa broke his leg.

The news suggests that Newcastle manager Chris Hughton has identified Donovan as the player who can replace Hatem Ben Arfa in the short term, and Landon would be an exciting signing for the Newcastle club, there’s no doubt about that, and it would help put the Magpies on the football map in the USA.

Newcastle already have a solid following in the USA now, following their fantastic winning of the Championship last season, and for the brave way in which they have been playing against more than a little adversity so far this season, in the Premier League.

Donovan is now 28 years old, and had an excellent World Cup, and can play in many different positions both as a striker or in midfield. And Hughton knows he must add more creativity and skill up front soon, if Newcastle are to prosper for the rest of this season.

Newcastle are said to be working on a possible loan deal now, and hope to contract the player to a loan deal in January, sooner rather than later.

A Newcastle source is said to have told GOAL today:

“He is exactly the signing Newcastle need with Ben Arfa out with a long-term injury,” “The boss is worried the team rely too much on Andy Carroll and Donovan has proven that he can hurt defenses in the Premier League.”

“It would work really well for the player because he will be guaranteed a game every week and for the club because those three months after Christmas will be vital – we want a mid-table finish.”

That makes a lot of sense to us, but Everton will remain the favorites to sign the USA record goalscorer, after he really enjoyed his time at Goodison earlier this year, and became a firm fan favorite.

But Newcastle seem to be expert these days in getting their transfer targets,  and they are in with a chance of getting this fine player, who has already played 128 times for the US side with 45 goals.

We hope this report has some truth in it.

    I wish!

Everton will almost certainly have first dibs, and will use them too. If they don’t want him though then get in their as early as possible. He could act as a sort of Van der Vaart for us; scoring tap-INS from Carroll’s knock-downs and creating everything else! 😀

This would be ideal and by the time the loan would be ending Ben Arfa could be back in training.

good . signing .. replacement for Arfa .. can’t see that .. maybe he’ll be played a bit more forward in a 4-4-2 that the deeper position arfa plays …
we need a right winger and striker in January and we just might do well ..
RB is dodgy but would like to see steven taylor there .. solid and gets forward .. with them additions and playing the right formation at home we’ll defo end up top half ..

Good to see NUFC looking at North America for temporary help. Would like to see NUFC loaning some of the youngsters to the MLS next summer to help them develop their careers.

Now that NUFC has poached Gosling & took a win at the Toffees, it would be good to do “three’s the charm” and land Landon.

When he was with Everton he didnt always get in their team.

I dont really see the need for more midfielders, plus Gos will be back in Jan too.

If he was gonna come back to the PL on loan, then you would imagine he would go straight back to the toffees.

He would be an excellent coup for us if we got him. He would do well on the right side of midfield since Routledge hasn’t been putting in the performances we have needed and everyone else CH has played there is a CM. Donovan is a natural wide player and he would do well to fill in for us. Very energetic and comes back to help the defense as well. He would fill a big gap for us on the right side.

I myself am Mexican, newcastle follower, I always dreamed of with the signing of donovan, if it is a player who can contribute much, as much like Ben Arfa, has goal, speed, versatility, dribbling, you can play as second striker, as a midfielder, add much, but most of the loan if they could bring in the purchase, it would be really wonderful. a question (please respond with what they know) where in England or Europe, or maybe American football I can test to join the academy newcastle?, I’ve always dreamed of playing there, I have 16 years and currently play in the third division in Mexican soccer, I can play as center forward, creative and defense (in any of four positions), please if they know anything or know of someone, let me know, leave my mail brandon.2305 @ hotmail.com, I trust you fully.

    1) Landon doesn’t play second fiddle to Becks in LA. Other than selling shirts, Becks doesn’t have as much of an impact on their success as Donovan and Edson Buddle.

    2) Donovan led MLS in assists this season with 17, while also putting seven in the net, all the while missing a month of the season due to the World Cup…where he bagged some more goals.

    3) Donovan would be an ideal player for Newcastle…I for one would be very stoked about it.

Nope,he aint good enough for the PL.
International level he has done well but PL level i don`t think he can do it week in week out.
ROBBIE KEANE would be a better loan deal, might cost more on wages but the better striker all-round

bran, I am not sure you can have trials anywhere other than Newcastle, but if you keep playing and get to the Mexican first division and keep doing well I am sure you will get scouted by someone – like Santiago Munez in ‘Goal’ – (maybe an English team will spot you, or maybe just European) after that it will be much easier to play for us.

If you really want trials though then I think you would have to come to the greatest city in the world 😀

He played on the right for Everton and would most likely do the same here. Ben Arfa may not be fully fit until Feb or March (who knows?) and we are currently without a solid right winger. Landon Donovan would make Newcastle better. End of discussion.

I hope we sign Landon Donovan! He will be a great addition to our attacking! Agree on the comment that said he will be like our Van Der Vaart scoring Carrolls tapins all the time! Again he would be excellent
