Before the Chelsea game at Stamford Bridge last month, most of us were hoping we wouldn’t be smashed, as we were in that first game at Old Trafford in August.
Chris Hughton – another great game tonight?
So to be competitive in that game, after at least the first 10 minutes or so, was a relief. But then the youngsters showed they have all the fight and guts of the first team, and both sides produced a game to remember, one for the ages, a terrific game for fans to watch.
And of course everything went our way in the end, after Chelsea went down to 10 men, but not after Newcastle had gone 3-1 ahead early in that second half.
And the Londoners came back well from 3-1 down, to tie the scores at 3-3, before Shola Ameobi, who had a terrific game, scored that great header from a Jonas Gutierrez corner on 90 minutes, to give Newcastle a famous victory and to set up the Arsenal game tonight.
It’s no wonder that Chris Hughton is looking forward to the game, as he told the Evening Chronicle it will be an opportunity for some Newcastle fringe players to shine:
“Apart from the fact it was an exciting game, there were some really good performances.” “There were a lot of changes, and it was an exciting prospect for a lot of them.”
It’ll be the same tonight.”“Every game’s an opportunity to do well and impress, and get some consistency in your game.” “There are so many reasons why every player wants to play.”
Tonight will be another good chance for Newcastle fans to see just how strong a squad we currently have, and we have to hope the lads play somewhere near their best, and then at the very least it should be a great game to watch, and with a little luck we could even get through to the quarter finals.
Tonight’s game will go to extra time and penalties if required, as there must be a winner on the night.
Howay The Lads!!
