Chris Hughton has been interviewed today, and it’s hardly surprising that he only wants to talk about preparations for the game with Sunderland on Sunday afternoon.
Chris Hughton – talk to the club about any statements
Chris told the Evening Chronicle today what he thinks his job is at Newcastle:
“It’s about winning as many games as I can.” “It’s a massive game for us on Sunday against Sunderland, and that is all we’re talking about between now and then.”
“We get on with the job.” “My understanding is that I am manager of this football club. I’m proud of that and looking forward to a big derby game.” “But regarding any statements, you need to speak to the club.”
It’s also our understanding that he is manager of Newcastle.
But it’s obvious Chris wants to put all this recent and rather stupid speculation regarding his job behind him, and concentrate fully on Sunday’s game, which is always a massive game for Newcastle.
And with not having a win in our last four home games in all competitions, we are certainly due a win on Sunday, and that’s got to be good – with Sunderland as the visitors.
And we thought the 33,157 Newcastle fans who turned out for the game last night were just great, and supported their team throughout, even though there was no luck on our side and referee Andre Mariner made some weird calls during the game.
So it seems the crowd are fully behind the players and Chris himself, and the manager thanked the fans for their support last night;
“The crowd have been excellent. We were losing 4-0 in a game and at no point did the crowd get on the players’ backs. I thought they were excellent all round.”
It’s an early KO game on Sunday, and the game starts at 1:30 pm local time and is being televised live aorund the world, and if we don’t have a sell-out crowd on Sunday afternoon at St. James’ Park, then it’s hard to imagine when we will this season.
