News today from Chris Hughton that Steven Taylor will not be fit enough to play on Sunday and that Sol Campbell is still a major doubt.
Steven Taylor – will not play on Sunday
Of course with Steven having not played at all this season, it was always going to be a long shot that he could be ready for such an important game, although no doubt he wants to play in the derby game.
The last time Steven played for the first team in a competitive game was way back in January against WBA, and the 24-year-old has been hit with a number of injuries since then, first with his knee ligaments, and then with his shoulder.
Hughton told the Evening Chronicle:
“Steven Taylor is training hard but will miss Sunday.” “He definitely won’t be involved against Sunderland.”
Sol Campbell is still a doubt for the game, and it looks likely that Williamson and Coloccini will again be the central defensive pair for the Magpies against the Black Cats.
Hughton will no doubt make lots of changes again from the side that lost to Arsenal, and we would expect the same side that did so well at West Ham to line up against Sunderland on Sunday, in what is a must win game.
And it’s about time the lads got another home win, with just a single victory in the five games they have played at home this season.
