Ashley…. times have changed- he has stuck with his long term plan-cleared the debt and stopped the silly wages-i believe hes now running the club for the best of the club-probably always was-we were just too used to the big spend and wouldnt listen-that said, he made mistakes-but even KK said the massive spendin days were over-hence he didnt fancy the challenge-Hughton did- and is doing a fine job-haway the lads!

i think it’s fairly obvious who to vote for, although the sentimaental one’s will go for freddy sheppard i don’t think he was ever a good man running the club and certainly doesn’t have the money to do so now.
Ashley although we have a love hate relationship with him, he has provided us with money although could do with some more, the club is no longer hemorrhaging money like in sheppard’s time and we can actually start to look into the future from now on, personally i would take Ashley every day of the week over the sly sheppard.
without ashley it’s doubtful if we would even have a club left if sheppard had not sold out

Ashley,no doubt! At least he has a financial plan and is moving towards the ultimate Platini new financial rules, whilst appearing to adopt the Arse model! Shep too interested in trophy signings and financial mercenaries!!

    Ashley, ofcourse.

And Ed. We’ve scouted this Israeli striker lately. Itay Shechter. Looks a decent prospect.

With exception to the re-naming of the stadium, I think Mike Ashley and Llambias have done a relatively good job. The club is now stable and we can look to build on this new found stability season by season.

Shepherd is a media whore who pays big player for shit performances.

Why would we want to be taken over by someone who has more or less the same budget?

If we are to be bought i want it to be by a super billionaire, not some average business man with a few quid in his pocket

Ed: Clearly this poll/thread wasnt worth the time you took to create it ?
No football fan would ever want to go back to the dark days of Shepherd/Hall greed.

    1. If the dividends they (Shepherd/Hall) bestowed upon themselves had been ploughed back into the club instead og going into their offshore accounts, the stadium rebuild mortgage could have been paid off thus saving thousands of pounds each year in interest payments.

    2. In the close season after our first experience of Champions League football we were poised to make the next step up by bringing in more quality players to reinforce SBR’s talented squad. However the Board had other ideas and chose to offer to buy 16m shares from Hall at a cost of £4.5m. So instead of bringing in more quality players we got Lee Bowyer on a free transfer and Fat Freddy’s gang got another fat cheque !

    3. The amount of money taken out of the club by the Shepherds was, in 2007, just over £5m. Which does not include salaries but does include nearly £1m during a time when the club did not spend any money on players. Whereas the chairman of any company is duty bound to protect shareholder interests by enhancing the business not robbing it of cash.

These are just a few “highlights” of the Shepherd Hall administration. Whatever else you may think about them they were not good for this club nor its supporters. Please do not forget !

    This is a non-poll.

Also, I’d prefer it if people didn’t say “we” don’t want Ashley. I do. He’s been doing a damn good job for the last 16 months and it looks like it’s going to continue that way.

Where were we when freddy shepherd was in charge? We were an established premier league side and when we had wor bobby in charge a top four side. Now fat ash comes in and we went down into the championship.

Shepherd wasn’t great but he had more ambition and put up the cash to get the club into the top four and try and keep them there. Remeber it was the managers signings not freddys unlike fat ash and his cockney crew.

    Can we say niether ?
I got the feeling perhaps Ashley is beginning to GET IT.
If he brings in a decent RB and a R/wing, during the next window, we are just about guaranteed to stay up.

“Shepherd wasn’t great but he had more ambition and put up the cash to get the club into the top four”

You can tell people until you’re sick of telling them that Shepherd’s ONLY cash injections into the club were simply to buy more shares so he could get more money out of the sale of the club and still they believe that Fatso bankroilled this club.

Amazing what Newcastle Brown Ale does to the brain over a sustained period of time 🙁
