Cheick Tiote Recommends Two Ivory Coast Players

Cheick Tiote has given a great interview for the official Newcastle site this week, when he answered questions from the Newcastle fans.

And not surprisingly Cheick was asked, becasue he is so good,  and also came at a remarkably low price of just £3.5M, were  there any other Ivory Coast players he could recommend.

Here’s the question from Mark Lowes, and the answer given by Cheick, whose fast becoming a big favorite with Newcastle fans, because of his excellent performances so far this season.

Question: Hey, I’m all for finding talent such as yourself, and would like to look in your homeland. Who can you recommend from your native country?

Answer: I have two names. The first is Gervinho, who plays for Lille as a forward or winger. He is really good, 23 years old and a great player. The other is Seydou Doumbia of CSKA Moscow. He’s a striker and he’s a great prospect.

Gervinho – full name Gervais Yao Kouassi

Gervinho is a 23 year-old striker or forward, who is currently at French club Lille and has played 13 times for his country with 4 goals.  He was at Belgium club Beveren from 2005 until 2007 before moving to Le Mans in France, where he stayed for two seasons,  before joining Lille just last year.

He has played around 40 times for the French club with 17 goals, and one English club interested in the player at least for a couple of seasons is – Arsenal.

Seydou Doumbia

Doumbia is a 5’10” striker currently at CSK Moscow,  whom  he joined in January of this year from Swiss club Young Boys, and the contract stipulated he would stay at Young Boys until the end of  last season,  before moving to Russia.

He has also played at ASEC Mimosas , Denguelé, – both Ivory Coast clubs, Kashiwa Reysol 24 and Tokushima Vortis on loan –  both Japan clubs, and Young Boys, before he joined the Moscow club.

Seydou seems to have no problem in scoring goals, since in 136 first class appearances he’s scored 90 goals so far in his career, and in 11 games with the Russian side he’s scored 10 goals.

Whether Newcastle will make a move for either of these players  is a very good question.

I say scout em up Hughton. If they’re worth a shot then try a loan deal if not try and get them for a reasonable fee. That scoring record does look very impressive considering he’s being playing in a few different leagues. Also if Wenger is keeping tabs on one of them it proves he’s a quality players.

Seydou Doumbia is ALOT better than Gervinhio at his role in the team, for Seydou its scoring goals which he does with ease in whatever league he has so far played in the problem is he is a Chelsea fan and wud use us as a stepping stone, its more about if we can attract these players which i dont feel we can they would be over our budget.

Good shouts from Tioté. I’ve watched alot of both of them, and Doumbia is probably the better one. Would suit Carroll amazingly with his insane speed.

hey, think it’s great you’re doing a blog on my question, I was pleased with Cheick’s response and genuinely think CH should go for these players, or look at them at least!
