Danny Simpson And Carroll Close To England Call-Up

After another classic Andy Carroll header last night in the game against Blackburn, which was his 7th league goal of the season,  it seems almost certain that Andy will get an England call-up on Saturday when Fabio Capello announces his squad.

Danny Simpson – call-up for England?

But the Daily Mirror is reporting that Newcastle full-back Danny Simpson may also be under consideration for an England call-up, after returning  to the Newcastle first team, in their last 4 games, after being out with an ankle injury.

Danny was signed for just £500K from Man United last January, and has been in good form, and has also played some excellent football this season in the Premier League.

Capello was at the Emirates Stadium on Sunday afternoon,  where he would have seen  a number of Newcastle players have outstanding games, and that included Englishmen Carroll, Simpson, Barton, Nolan and Ameobi.

It turns out that Capello’s assistant Franco Baldini had watched 23 year-old Danny Simpson the previous Sunday against Sunderland, when once again Simpson was outstanding at right back for the Magpies,  in the 5-1 hammering of the local rivals.

Capello is due to name his squad on Saturday night following the PL games on Saturday, and it could be that England will have Newcastle watched again against Fulham, and we’ll have to see how many Newcastle players, if any, are included in the squad for the game against  France next Wednesday night.

With Joey Barton’s altercation with Pedersen in last night’s game, there’s no way he will now be named by Capello for this England squad – unfortunately.

I will be very surprised if Capello calls up Danny Simpson as he has had very little experience in the English Premiere League.

Then again, there are not many (if any) world class right backs in the world right now, let alone England.

Having said that, I have been very impressed with Simpson’s performance. He has made some very timely tackles and held his ground very well against Arsenal. However, there were several times where he was sloopy when clearing the balls upfield in the closing stages of the Arsenal game.

I do hope he gets called up for England eventually when he is better proven and more established.

pearceet, lets be honest here, regardless of the validity of your post, read it back. Look at the wording, and honestly, if you were us, would you believe it? Sounds very like ‘a man in the pub said …’. No offence mate, but thats my opinion.

Newcastle Players that should be at the current England Squad

    Carroll (Goals and Assist)
    Nolan (Goals and Assist)

    Maybe include:
Simpson (still think he is lack of BPL games)
Barton ( If Capello only look at his football)
Williamson (Why not? 27 yrs old and England desperately need a centre back)

I thought Simmo disappeared a few times last night, leaving Barton backed up by Williamson dealing with threats down our right on at least a couple of occasions.

Let’s worry about our lads being able to beat the likes of Fulham before we have them running off for the Queen.

all due respect to danny simpson. but he’s no where near good enough to play national football.

i think cappello is just picking players he knows nothing about just to keep the england fans happy.

andy carrol was good enough for england last season and got ignored. now people are backing him cappello seems to want to find out more about him.
