Time To Give Other Players A Chance At Newcastle

It seems Shola Ameobi has another hamstring injury, and Shola has always had a struggle with hamstring injuries, over his career.

Danny Guthrie – could he start Saturday?

There were rumors on Sky Sports before the game,  that Shola would not play because of a thigh injury, and since he just lasted  for 45 minutes, surely he shouldn’t  play on Saturday, so the injury can fully heal.

Shola, by his own admission, has played in the past too many times when he has been slightly injured, and promised last week he wouldn’t do that again.

Two players who haven’t even been on the bench these last two games are Ryan Taylor and Danny Guthrie, so maybe these two lads will get a chance on Saturday, either starting the game or at least getting to sit on the bench.

Ryan wants to play football, and while he’s been quiet of late, we cannot think he will want to stay on Tyneside, if he’s not going to get the games, or even a place on the bench, and it’s hard to criticize the lad for that.

Hughton told the Evening Chronicle today:

“That’s what I need to assess.” “I will decide whether to freshen things up a bit or whether this group deserve to go again against Fulham.”

“I think they did well in the second half.” “If you take away their goal then we go in and get a deserved draw.”  “It’s certainly something I need to think about.”

The Newcastle crowd were well aware the lads were struggling last night, and just couldn’t get going, but they didn’t turn on them, although they were a lot quieter than usual, to be sure. And the crowd was a disappointing 41,053.

What the Newcastle players need to do is to come out on Saturday – whichever team starts – and go all out for a win, because all 3 points will see us continue our very good start to the season,  and 20 points from the first 13 games would be very good indeed.

Chris Hughton continued:

“What the crowd saw was a team that pushed and pushed and deserved something from the game.”  “I don’t think there would be anybody in that stadium that felt we deserved to lose the game, but we did.”

“That’s how cruel this division can be. That’s the type of game last season we won or clawed something from, but we were up against a resolute team in Blackburn.”

It could be that Steven Taylor and Sol Campbell could get games on Saturday to shore up the defense, and Alan Smith will likely start for Cheick Tiote,  who picked  up his 5th yellow card last night, and Danny Guthrie, Ryan Taylor and Peter Loevnkrands could also feature.

After playing the same starting eleven in the last four league games, if Chris doesn’t shuffle the team for Saturday – then he never will.

Comments welcome.

We dont need knee jerk reactions in making changes for the sake of it.

Sure Strolla is injured, so replace him with McLoven for the Fulham game, no other changes needed.

Danny Guthrie is not a premiership player, good as backup but i hope Hughton will keep the same team, maybe put routledge in for shola and Nolan in the hole…

“Time to give other players a chance at newcastle”

another utterly moronic headline. why change a team that’s done so well, with the exception of conceding two lucky goals yesterday? if shola’s injured then of course change is a necessity but where the hell would ryan taylor figure in our current set up? completely pointless article….again

    ********* Krul
    Simmo Willo Collo Eltoro

    ********* Tiote

    Barton * * Nolan * * * Jonas

    ** McLoven * Carroll

    Subs:
Soderburg, Saylor, Sol, Raylor, Smudge, Rout, Ranger

Why is everyone so against Willo?

Collo was the one being outplayed last night.

Bring Raylor in – who you gonna drop – Barton? Simmo?

Bring in Routledge – who you gonna drop – Barton? Jonas?

Why change a good formation and team??

Need to change it against Fulham, they are similar to B`burn. Playing direct will end being a similar type of game and probable result.
To freshen things up we need to play down the flanks and get quality balls in.
    I would go with this:
    ———-Krull
    Simpson–SayloR–Sol–Jose
    Raylor–Barton–Guthrie–Loven
    ————–Nolan
    ———————Carrol
    Subs: Sode/ Collo/Williams/Jonas/Ranger/Smith/Xisco(or Routs)

S Taylor is our 4th choice centreback imo.
He hasn’t even signed a new contract yet, don’t know why everyone is on Willo’s back. The only changes needed on sat are to cover Shola (if injured) and Barton who will be unavailable for at least 3 games

Also if you look at our poor defence over the last few years there has been one common denominator which is Mr Stephen Taylor who thinks he’s worth 60k a week!

    Cheik check

NUFC confirm that the yellow card shown to United midfielder Cheik Tiote in Wednesday’s home defeat by Blackburn Rovers was in fact his fourth of the season – not the fifth as we claimed.

That means that the man from the Ivory Coast is still one booking away from an automatic one game ban and will be available for selection against Fulham on Saturday.

The disparity looks to have come in the Carling Cup tie away to Chelsea, when he was reported to have been cautioned after fouling Alex in the box on 85 minutes and conceding a penalty. However, that subsequently proved not to have been the case.

Can someone please clarify whether tiote has 4 or 5 yellow cards, as the official prem league stats say he only has 4. However, these things are not always updated quickly so that may be incorrect.

I’m going to the fulham game so I really hope he’s only on 4! No offence smith, but he is far superior in defensive midfield. I also see nolan and carroll are now prem league leading scores, nice.

amble_ball .. exactly .. we’re on 17 points fer F**ks sake .. stick with hughtons selection .. we just got out muscled last night .. we have to come out fighting in games like these and fulham .. or else the other team get a foot hold …
just a bit worried about losing barton .. that’d be a huge loss .. maybe gosling is near fit to cover that.. …

If barton doesnt play I think routledge will play RW, unless guthrie is fit because CH seems to like playing him on the right also rather than routledge, who he doesnt seem to have much faith in.

Maybe R.Taylor would be a good shout for RM if barton doesnt play or a CM is rested and barton goes into the middle?

If he admits to it—-3 match ban missing Fulham/Bolton/Chelsea.
If he contests it hearing Mon, but done deal, plays against Fulham but then also misses Wba.
Wot an idiot, great example to Carrol!!!

barton should be dropped by chris as an example anyway imo. there have been too many idiots at the club in recent years from dyer making a mockery of bobby to this numpty just been the fool he is. i for one would not be upset to see him given a 6game ban from the club rather than the f.a.,

nimo: 1st ARE YOU A MACKEM?

We need to stand behind Barton on this one. I firmly belive that what he did was totally wrong and uncalled for. Pedersen hardly touched him at all. 3 match suspended is fair.

But when you look at how much effort Barton has put in this season to control his nasty temper and get on with the talent he is, we have to support him through this and cheer him in when he’s back.

nimo: question: SO you would have kicked Alan Shearer out of the team after he kicked Neil Lennon in the head??? That is one of the most brutal things I’ve seen on a pitch, but still Alan Shearer will be my hero until I die.

Niether Raylor or Guthrie are EPL quality and no one seems to know where they fit in, well Guthrie is IMO an inside midfielder but Raylor ?
Play Routledge , at least he shows flashes of talent.

Who’s the fraking idiot who said Guthrie isn’t PL quality?? if you wind yer neck in & remember when he last played, he played a blinder for us in CM but then CH put him out wide & he was unable to do what he’s good at & that picking crosses for players, so if Guthrie plays, he needs to be in the center not out wide!!!

Drop strola & bring in Ranger as a direct replacement, Bartons out, so let Routy back in & see how he & Simmo get on down the right..

No other changes needed until Tiote gets another Yellow, lets hope he’s on the ball again this game as I think he tried tooo hard against Fat Shams men & lost the ball a couple of times but he’ll learn, he’s only had 11 games in the PL & is doing frakin fantastic.. 🙂

    Sweendog:
Note your comments regarding spending for cover, and totally agree.
However, we already have great cover for El Toro, in young Shane Ferguson. This kid has great balance, pace, and a magnificent left foot. When the time is right, he is certainly good enough, no worries whatsoever.
Right side is more of a problem, as Perch will never make a PL full back as long as his arse points at the grass.
Striking options are very limited. Injury to Big lad will leave us in big trouble and we need someone in during Jan window. I personally would like to see us go for a possible loan of two strikers: Roque Santa Cruz and Ryan Babel. (My opinion only of course).

Erm ! the idiot who said Guthrie was`nt good enough for the EPL, that would be me !
Is he as good as Ben Arfa, Nolan,Joey, Tiote ?
    The answer is no !
How many sides in the EPL would he start on? bench warmer at best.

Shane Ferguson ? I like him and he has a future in this club and division, however he is still raw and needs time.
Perch ? will probably be retained (i was a critic of his first few games) but probably CH sees something there, can play either side and had a good game recently replacing El Toro
    Hey just opinions !

As for Babel, same problem as Routledge, was given plenty of opportunities but Inconsistent.
Plus Pool would try to get their money back, too expensive.
Santa Cruz, probably get him cheap, problem is he will be thirty next birthday, does`nt click on the age policy requirement.
