Hughton Forced Into Changes With Tiote And Barton Suspended

With Joey Barton getting his 3 match suspension last night for violent conduct, and Cheick Tiote also picking up his 5th yellow card against Blackburn, two of our best players this season will not be available for the game at home to Fulham tomorrow.

Sol Campbell – to get start tomorrow?

That’s a pity, but looking on the bright side it does give chances to some of our squad players,  and that squad has already proved itself one of the strongest Newcastle have had for a few years.

Chris Hughton may have been going to change things around in any case,  with tomorrow’s game being our 3rd game in 6 days, but now he has no choice about it.

We also hope that Ameobi isn’t even on the bench tomorrow, and we say that because he’s obviously got a thigh strain, which in past times he would play through, but that’s one reason Shola has been injured so much in his Newcastle career, so we hope that Shola doesn’t play at all tomorrow.

There’s also a chance that one of our center-backs will be rested, to give either Steven Taylor or Sol Campbell a  game, as the team has given away far too many goals this season.

Defense is an area we need to improve on – and we can even measure that improvement by how many clean sheets we can start getting. We’ve had only three so far this season in our 15 games in both league and cup.

So as far as changes tomorrow, here are some that Chris may make:

  • Steven Taylor or Sol Campbell for Mike Williamson
  • Peter Lovenkrands or Nile Ranger for Shola Ameobi
  • Alan Smith for Cheick Tiote
  • Danny Guthrie, Wayne Routledge or Ryan Taylor for Joey Barton

So that’s at least 4 changes from the side that’s been unchanged these last 4 league games.

Its going to be very interesting 30 minutes before KO tomorrow, to see the team that Chris has selected – but as we said, on the bright side, it’s going to give some of our squad players a chance.

What do you think the team should be tomorrow?

We need to get back to our winning ways, and a win tomorrow will see us in a very good position in the league.

Comments welcome.

Note – after putting this article out we realized it was only Cheick’s 4th yellow card on Wednesday night  – so that’s good news – and he will be in the line up tomorrow – sorry about the error.

I think Tiote is still on 4th yellow. But the team will miss barton.

Ed mate, this is the 3rd post you’re put saying Tiote is suspended but he’s only on his 4th yellow card as other have said, or is this a ploy by you to make the Fulham team think he is & then we play him as a secret weapon or summit… lol 😉

Also, I don’t see why we should drop Willo in defense when he lost out on a tackle, where was Colo as back up, why isn’t he being mentioned as being dropped???

Barton is a frakin idiot yes but I don’t think this little slip up & I hope it’s a slip up & not a return to the old Barton, should detract from the last 18month that he’s proved he can play, especially after all the hard tackles he’s taken in the first 11 games of this season, if he does revert back to the old ways, then I say sell him but otherwise I’ve seen enough in him lately to stand behind him, like we have Carroll & back him on the field of play.. 🙂

    I would like to see

    simpson-colo-campbell- enrique

    routledge-guthrie-tiote-gutz

    nolan-carrol

I would also like to point out that Tiote has been awsome since he came here but I had told my family it is only a matter of time until he gives away an idiotic goal. He seems to be to comfortable with the ball whne he is to close to are own goal and he looks class when everything works out but he needs to get that ball out of the box as quickly as possible.

Colo is not mentioned because there were other players on the field that he had to keep an eye on.

NAM – from what I heard as I didn’t see the match, Roberts was on his own up front & it was the counter attack that caught us out & that Willo was manhandled off the ball by Roberts??

So where was Colo & Krul, plus Simmo & Eltoro, I’m guessing they were all running back from the other half????

Personally I think at least 2 defenders should always stay back so it’s never left 1 on 1 with a counter attack!!

Well how long is Adam Johnson going to sit on the bench. That man is class and we should get him and then get Bale on the other side. And Rodwell in the middle.

    I joke- I joke

But SWP would be brillant on loan.

Way too old & on way too much money, plus his oldman wouldn’t let him join us, as he’s an Arse-nil fan & would want him to follow in his footsteps…. 🙁

You forgot to mention that SWP is a one trick pony, headless chicken. Did you not notice that we already have a blind alley runner in Routledge?

If Bambi is out, then play Ranger – he has the pace to cause mayhem in Fulhams half and could do with a good run out.

Barton is banned, so only a second change required.

Win this one and we are on 20 points – half way to the magical 40 which is supposed to be Premier league safety!!!

Mike Williamson has made mistakes in most of our games so far this season, but he is new to this league, and seems to be improving at a good rate, but I would play sol for his experience, and leadership qualities, at the moment we just can’t seem to get a fair referee, the double standards by them are amazing, it’s just a matter of time that a hot head will run on the pitch and give them a push, let’s face it we have had two players hospitalised, & needing an operation, and the combined punishment was 1 yellow card. let’s see what we get at least Lee Probert has never had an awful game against us, and even if he is bad tomorrow, as long as he is equally bad against Bothe teams that’s fine by me, all we want is consistency from him, it would be great to get a perfect display, but the only ref that has reached any sort of standard this season so far is Mark Halsey.

Can use Simmo & Enrique as wingbacks in attack with Tiote covering defense…

    dak76,
Guthrie must never ever be played wide right, it is becoming embarrasing how often he strays from his position and leaves the full back exposed. The reason El Toro and Spidey have such an effective pairing, is that they work for each other. Shape of th eteam is all-important, and Guthrie does not have the discipline to hold the wide line. Centre mid, yes oK but he is as slow as Smith, and not as strong in the tackle.
Simpson needs someone who is likely to get back and support down the flanks when required, and Routledge does that well. Thats why Routledge gets my vote for RW tomorrow, not because he is morer potent threat thann Nile. We simply can not afford to lose any more stupid points at home. Survival is the name of the game, and being solid defensively is 90% of the battle. defense starts in midfield and by not giving the ball away cheaply, and not allowing acres of space for the opposition to exploit.

Just heard that Raylor is out with an ankle injury, and The Fenham Eusabio is getting a fitness test ahead of the game tomorrow on his hamstring. Could make the selection easier for Hoots, stright choice between Routers and Nile now. (Surely not Guthrie for wide right?)

With Barton gone and our pi$$ poor home form I just can’t see us taking three points against Fulham. I don’t see where our offensive creativity will come from now.

Strange, but with Barton gone our squad suddenly has a Championship feel too it. I guess because it weakens the midfield so much to lose him.

Am I being too negative or does anyone else feel concerned and nervous about the Fulham match now?

Not me. Fulham are not near the bottom by accident. we need to be alert (britain needs more lerts) because they can obviously drag us back down a peg or two. A solid performance (which we are capable of) will see us through in a tight game. 2-1 to United.
