Fulham manager Mark Hughes, who was said to be a Newcastle target after Sam Allardyce left the club in early 2008, has nothing but praise for Newcastle manager Chris Hughton.
Chris Hughton – done a great job on Tyneside
Chris is still awaiting a new and improved contract being offered to him, after he turned down the first offer earlier this season, according to former Newcastle player Warren Barton.
Hughes has admitted that he is surprised Chris has yet to be offered a new contract to replace the one which expires in the summer, and his current wage is said to be around £250K/year.
This is what Mark told Sky Sports:
“I think everyone in football is surprised he has not been offered a new contract,” “He’s done a great job. He’s stabilized the club after relegation and brought them back up and now they are riding high.”
Hughton has so far led Newcastle to fifth place in the Premier League, after 12 games in the Magpies first season back in the top flight, after being down below for just one season.
It could be that the assistant manager position and manager position should go together, and we have to think that until Chris signs his new contract, and the earlier the better for most Newcastle fans, only then will he be able to bring in a good assistant.
Chris certainly needs a good assistant to help him with the big work load on Tyneside, and another win this afternoon against Fulham would be a good way of going about getting a very decent contract offer from owner Mike Ashley.
