Many pundits are suggesting that Andy Carroll could become as good as Newcastle’s former number 9 striker, the great Alan Shearer.
Alan Shearer – while manager at Newcastle
If that is to come true, then Andy still has a lot of improvement to make, but that’s just exactly what he’s done over the last 12 months, as he has improved his game immensely and is starting to score goals for fun.
Alan Shearer thinks that Andy Carroll deserves his chance tomorrow night, even though he has had some troubles off the pitch.
This is what Alan said:
“You have to judge these guys on what they do on the football pitch,” “They are young guys with a lot of money and he is a young single guy.”
“You are going to have scrapes. We all make mistakes, but you have to learn from those mistakes. If he can do that then of course he should be included in the England squad.”
“He is something very different – he is big and strong and will hold the ball up,” “If you want to have a plan B and you want to go long, then there is nobody better than him,” “There are not many players who can beat him in the air.”
“The guy in form is Carroll,” “He has come on in leaps and bounds over the last 18 months. I always knew he had talent, but this has come a bit quicker than I thought it would.”
“But you don’t have to kick and rush with him. He has got a decent touch. He will run into the corners and he will score goals.”
Carroll’s first full cap seems to all depend whether Andy is fit to play tomorrow night, because the news leaked by the England camp was that Fabio Capello’s plan was to start the new Newcastle number 9 striker.
It seems to be touch and go, and we may even get some news today, after Andy is supposed to train with the England squad this morning.
