Chris Hughton Says Again – No New Players Coming In January

Chris Hughton has reaffirmed to the Newcastle Journal this morning that he will not be bringing in any new players in the January transfer window.

Chris Hughton – we have a good squad already

In an interview today he says the Newcastle squad is strong and there is no need to bring in any new players even though Newcastle lost the great Hatem Ben Arfa with a broken leg 6 weeks ago.

This is what Chris said today:

“I am disappointed to have lost a player of Hatem’s quality but we will not overreact to one injury in what is a very strong squad.”

“We won’t be adding to the squad in January – I feel we have a lot of strength in depth with the players we have already and there’s no need to add to it.”

“We completed our squad before the last transfer window and I’m extremely pleased with the players we have brought in.”

“Mike Ashley and the board were very financially supportive and together we did some very good business in the summer.”

It’s a little surprising Chris has said almost exactly the things he said about a month ago, but maybe he means it, and no new players will be coming in.

Certainly we are starting to get more worried about players like Ryan Taylor and Peter Lovenkrands, who are getting very little playing time, and may even want to leave the club in January.

If Chris wants to keep improving his squad it may be that some players have already served their purpose at the club, and some will need to be moved out to accommodate new and better players coming in.

However, it looks like Chris will do none of this in January, and will wait until the summer to reassess the squad, and depending on where we finish in the league will decide just how the team is strengthened.

Comments always welcome.

Looking at the table we would have been happy with 8th at this point in the season-bar one thing-those pesky mackems have crept above us due to our poor home form-i know Ryan Taylors not great, but with Barton missing another 2 games could he not be the one to give Carroll those deliverys? and if he can do it from a free kick he can do it from a corner-just a thought-Steven Taylors fit again and i think big Sol would shore up the defence-rotation? Gosling will be like a new signing anyway in jan and how about using some of the young guns-Ferguson-Vuckic-Airey etc-after all thats the way forward-ide still say we need a striker tho-get Beardsley in the kit again lol

Really Indian Magpie??? Have you missed the last year?? Chris is doing what he always does and that is keep his cards close to his chest. I am sure if we offload someone a replacement would be sought. Considering our two best buys in recent years were Bassong and Tiote and both were cheap as chips I dont care if we dont spend much….or anything.

why dont we get pires as he is a free agent. lol worth a gamble i think, maybe use him in cup games or if we are looking for a goal in the final 10 minutes in premiership..he could be very useful, 37 now like, dont think hughton or ashley would take him!! otherwise i think we will be ok we have good cover in every position

Recent performances and present state of affairs with CH’s squad means we do not need any. Still think that with a series of quality wins and we will be challenging for a place in Europe next season. If the mackems can belt Chelsea then anything can happen.

Oh no .. still need a striker, RW and cover for the wing backs .. nevermind Arfa back ..

still lightweight by any means .. but proud of what we’ve acheived so far .. still need a good 6/7 points before half way or I think we’ll struggle ..

Charlie… and the window before that too?

CH has done and is doing the right thing and it’s the best way to do the business!

agree with what you say ch em as to which there is a good team, there is a good team no doubt, but the staff is very short, see Barton and Tiote suspended, r Taylor and Ameobi injured, but the missing ones, if You see there is a template so broad as to say that you have injured a player and two others to replace him. sorry for what I say but ch must stop being a puppet of mike ashley, you need players who asks and do not be afraid, it is true there is not much money to buy, but we saw that what little there know how to use it, and if they do not observe the signing of Tiote and Ben Arfa. in my opinion still three more signatures maybe a midfielder and two forwards, and sell it to leon best, indeed is very diffi cult to buy, but there are players who will be free agents in 2011 and maybe we can get a low price. I give you some names: HUGO ALMEIDA, Alessandro Matri, RASMUS JONSSON, Nicola Pozzi, Vadim Demidov, DAVID NUGENT, Adel Taarabt, David Odonkor, Urby Emanuelson, Juan Albin, I’m sure players like these would come to provide more quality already have, you think?

I forgot why not try to bring Nicklas Bendtner says “she is wasting her time in the arsenal” and would be willing to leave, if Nicklas Bendtner come no matter who is our only reinforcement in the winter, but of course sign Ben Arfa in summer.
