Would Newcastle Fancy Robert Pires On Short Term Deal?

News that former Arsenal and France great, Robert Pires, is available as a free agent, and that begs the question whether Newcastle may be interested.

Robert Pires – while at Arsenal – now a free agent

Pires has just turned 37, and obviously is well past his best, but he does provide some creativity that Newcastle are badly missing, since the injury to fellow Frenchman, Ben Arfa,  just over 6 weeks ago.

The news this morning is that Gerrard Houllier may want to sign the French midfielder, who has been training at his old club Arsenal, as he tries to keep fit hoping that some club will sign him soon.

Pires wants to play again in England, and has even said that he would be willing to sign for a Championship side, as long as they were pushing for promotion.

The Reims-born winger played for Metz, Marseilles, Arsenal and Villareal in his club career, and played 79 times  for France with 14 goals.

Somehow, we don’t think Newcastle will be interested.

But what do you think?

Comments welcome.

Yes. I have been saying this for a long time, yes for Robert Pires. He may be old, but his vision and passing for the game is simply class and class is permanent. Age is not a factor for a legend like him. He has kept himself fit and he can be like Gary Speed or even better.

Because CH always says “We won’t be adding to the squad”. Remember last season? “We won’t be bringing in any more faces” queue Routledge, Best, Williamson etc.

Get Pirés in on a pay as you play until the end of the season. He can still do a job despite his age.

according to the news I read in mexico, robert pires this point of joining Aston Villa in the next few days, in my opinion is a player with great quality, but the next to retire and it is better to give chance to young as haris or hire vuckic quality young players that is the case of Hatem Ben Arfa, I leave the name of someone I would like to sign Newcastle, his name is rasmus jonsson striker swedish 20 years
