Andy Carroll has always dreamed of following his idol Alan Shearer in playing for both Newcastle and England, and it seems the dream of playing for England will likely come true tonight, when England play France at Wembley.
Andy Carroll – at training with England yesterday in the fog
The game was sold out even before England fans knew that Andy Carroll would start for England and certainly the fans seem to have taken quickly to the Newcastle number 9.
Andy has spoken again today and said he is not ready to let anybody down tonight:
“I’ve always said wouldn’t dream of letting my country down if I got the call.” “I’ve just got to keep on doing what I have been doing.”“I’m scoring goals at the moment so that’s what I aim to continue doing.”
“It’s been a dream start to the season for me.” “I’m doing well – I just need to keep it up.” “It won’t faze me. My job is to go out and play football.”
“Getting your international debut is a dream come true for me.” “It’s not just about me – my family and my team-mates and my manager Chris Hughton have got me here.”
Although Newcastle have registered their concerns that Andy is not fit to play for England tonight, we think he will still start the game, but will play at most for 45 minutes, and there’s just no way he will play the full game.
Of course we Newcastle fans are concerned in case Andy gets injured tonight – and if that happens – the Newcastle club will have every right to be absolutely furious with the English FA.
We need the big lad for Bolton on Saturday, and it looks like Andy will now become a big draw for fans all over England.
